Good grief, I need ticky help.

Anybody have any resources to share about that?

Have you read Byrne and worked/practiced with the shots he suggests?

Mostly, you have to develop a feel for them. There are a lot of variables.

Well you can start with a simple system for standard middle of the road type tickies that gives a predictable result and is pretty easy to vary from for exceptions. If you know where the ball is going to start with you can change one or two variables instead of changing all of them at once.

But all system talk is heavily frowned upon here. The only answer you'll get here is FEEL. Just spend a few hundred hours practicing tickies to the exclusion of all other types of shots and you'll feeeel it, easy peasey.

If you go on YouTube and do a search on 'ticky billiards' you will find a number of instructional videos on tickies.

That was my first stop.

Found a night Cafe one that was ok but not good (hope the one a couple posts up is better)!
I was having ticky problems in cases where the ball was more than a couple of ball widths from the cushion and Dave Gross aka @12squared showed me a way to determine the proper aiming point. Unfortunately I'm old and haven't been able to play for a couple of years and I forgot what it was, so I'm hoping that Dave sees this and tells us.

I'm hoping Dave tells us and sees me.

Dave... DC.

C'mon out!

Wouldn’t you just use the mirror system?
Regarding where to aim

The English is a little wonky but you should be able to follow it. Change the Audio Track to English (US). A great primer on short table tickies, based on the mirror system at first, but then more about feel and changing hits and english and speed for different shots that aren't all that different from each other.

The Korean channels on youtube are just gold these days. They have all the Euro pros on, all sorts of good stuff, even -gasp- system information.

Moe, I think you are affected by my conversation I had earlier about my questioning of systems and how they should be implemented, and that my opinion is that they should never be thought of during actual play. I don’t believe in them but I don’t speak for everyone here, so systems are not necessarily frowned upon here. This just comes from my style of learning.

That being said, as I am quite good at tickies, the answer again comes down to feel and table knowledge. You really need to “aim” your object ball away from a kiss, not just hope to contact it. You then need to modify your kick angle to do this, while also adjusting effect to make the carom. You just need to really know where that object ball is spatially. You should start with ball and a quarter distance tickies and practice getting to different parts of the table without a third ball present.
