This Keeps Happening

This thread was started because I noticed there seemed to be 3-4 balls sort of clustered together quite a bit. As in the original post. The intent of this thread was to ask others that use a template if that is something that is normal for them as well.

But again, others have twisted it around and gotten away from the original post.

Lately the break has been working better. I've been running out a few times as well. On Friday afternoon I got out five times including three breaks in a row at one point. This new Diamond Professional is giving me more chances than my Gold Crown IV.

Typical for a worn out or defective template rack...3-4 balls will come out almost paralell and end up clustered. It really has to be either poorly designed or shot to hell before this starts happening, but I HAVE seen it happen with ancient template racks. I even had it happen to me for a couple of days, until I replaced the rack.

Buy a new one, an original Magic rack. If you can't get a good break with a rack like that (the magic rack "loads" the balls), then you are beyond hope. You allready replaced the best table ever made, a GC4, with a Diamond table because you didn't like the result of your breaks, what is a few bucks for a piece of plastic? Better still you could check if all your balls are the same size and weight, better get new ones, just to be sure. Then buy a new house just for the heck of it.

Gotta luv it.

I was at McDonald’s and spit out my fries at the last line!

That's literally the only thing that he hasn't suggested changing, and then when I heard well I have someone renting out this space I thought, oh no, he will move the table to the new space because it's a geographical racking issue.

DCP, have you figured out how to record, store, and share videos of yourself breaking and playing, using your phone? IIRC from other threads, you didn’t know how. (I assume you have a smartphone.)

I would be willing to help you create a YouTube account and work with you to record videos and upload them to YT, so you can share links to them here. It’s not hard to do. Here’s a sample (please excuse how the first rack started, or how the friggin’ second run ended):

DM me. Or don’t. Up to you.

I use the Outsville template for breaking racks of 9B. And as you all know I have been breaking those racks on my new Diamond Professional. The issue is that I usually end up with about four balls all close together as shown in the diagram. In this case it's the 4B, 5B, 6B, and 9B. The 6B blocks the 5B into the upper corner and the 9B blocks the 5B into the bottom corner. Thus position from the 4B to the 5B is very difficult. All these balls so close together has been making runouts very difficult for me.

My question is simply - is this normal for a template?

Yes, if you break using the same angle and speed every time.
Change your break speed and/or angle. Template racks spread consistently the same way based on how they're struck.
Strike differently grasshopper:cool:

3 ball gives a quick and simple break practice. You do have a 3 ball break....Right?
My largest score playing heads up came playing 3 ball.
My 3 ball break should have whitey bouncing 6 to 12 inches straight back.
The accuracy of the strike on the break shot is far more important than King Kong power. Don Wirtiman demonstrated that in a big tournament played on 7 foot Diamond tables playing 9 ball. All the big guns were crushing the rack and coming up dry. Don hit his 3/4 speed and the balls found a hole every time.
3 ball rack is quick and easy to read the results. If hit correctly my break has a chance to make all 3. Well rare but there. Getting them headed towards pockets is the goal. Luck takes care of the rest. The more I practice the luckier I get. 🤷‍♂️
