One reason a promoter could say is safety.
Safer for the players. Less chance of being robbed, less chance of players going bust at casinos.
Hell no! If I was a pro, and a promoter was going to host a tournament and pay in some sort of crypto, I'd think it was a scam and stay far, far away.

I think a slightly better way to go for the players is to do Venmo.
I think the WNT pays by direct deposit to bank accounts. Of course, if you are not interested in paying taxes, crypto is best except for the investment risk and the possibility of getting hacked.
