What to do with a broken Gus Szamboti?

Just need to find someone who can help me create matching Joint Protectors . This cue plays solid....tested in a tournament yesterday night and was one round shy of winning. Big test this weekend in Raxx billiards.

I am waiting on some from Steve Kornele right now. He has quite a few designs on his site and was easy to work with.

Many years ago while breaking a rack of balls during a pool league game I snapped the shaft at the joint , thankfully I had a extra shaft later that night when I got home I glued the pieces together and wrapped it with electric tape and I still shoot with it to this day .
This was my Dufferin Sneaky Pete cue !

Had this happened to me and that was my cue I'd cry like a little kid about it !

The modern roadie / stagehand now also has Gorilla tape , Gorilla glue , gaf tape and yes even a 12 pack of E Tape just in case ! Ha ha
I'd always suggest to my crew members to have when they came into work , a pocket knife , 8 inch crescent wrench , a good pair of gloves , a screwdriver with flat and Phillips head bits , just in case .

In my personal tool bag I had quite a bit more than that , it was funny as some traveling crew guys were told about me , and yes it was good even ha ha !

Appreciates all the feedback.....I figure I'll share the new, modernized Gus Szamboti/Tascarella cue with everyone in this thread.

The butt is 14.4oz, 28.5" long, and both original shafts are 29.5" long, weighing each in at about 4.0oz with 12.8mm Soft Gorina and 12.9 mm Medium Gorina. Pete also made me a matching 3rd shaft for this Gus at 13mm, ivy ferrule, 29.5" long. Tascarella's famous Ivy Joint with Steel provides the hit I love most about this cue. Enjoy the final product from one of the world's best cuemakers... world-class workmanship on this repair.

+1 for Kornele. I just got two sets recently. Both are great. Next up will probably be a set from Jim Baxter for my Gold Rush cue.

I knew it would be an incredible restoration and Tascarella is the best person I could come up with if this was my cue.
This very cue and the Barry Jr. cue are forever memorialized, IMO, as very unique and rare pool cues to possess more
than other Szamboti cues that even have intricate or ornate designs. Both cues have a very distinct provenance, IMO.

I am not a cue breaker but there are guys out there when you beat them, they go crazy and shatter their cues.

Looking at that cue disfigured, is hard to take.

Sometimes the cue must pay.

Came 4th yesterday playing with this cue. Definitely a player's cue and a keeper for sure. To test the cue in a tournament, I would always change my tip to Gorina Soft so I can establish a benchmark for playability. I should have won the tournament, but fatigue got the best of me and the crazy spots. Won 5 hill-hill battles with this cue.

Very cool and congratulations on getting it repaired so well! No doubt Pete and the Tascs do a wonderful job, but this work also saved a beautiful piece of history!

They built a brand-new ivory-over-steel joint, installed a perfectly fitted 5/16-14 pin, added a beautiful elephant ear wrap, customized the new inlays so they blended seamlessly with the original design, and refinished the entire cue to absolute perfection. Not to mention, one of their best shaft woods was used for the extra matching shaft that was built specifically for this Gus.

What was once a damaged cue has been brought back to life with exceptional precision and artistry. The cue not only looks stunning, but it also plays beautifully. thats way you only deal with people that do things on time.

thats also why you had palmer cues instead of paradice cues after a bit. as he lost all business for never getting anything done.
