I don't play snooker nor do I find it very entertaining. As its not a game that there are very many tables for in our area, its highly unlikely that will happen. If a straight stroke were absolutely necessary why don't we see high level snooker players successfully winning pool tournaments?

Reason: too much money in snooker.

Is that all about stroke? No, but if you don't think that Ronnie O, Judd Trump, Mark Shelby, Ding, Neil Roberson, and about fifty others couldn't dominate pool if they practiced it, you should watch more snooker. It's the only billiard game I can stand to watch.

More seriously, I am always working on my stroke. It is never where I want it to be.

Not long ago, Jasmine Ouschan was not satisfied with her stroke. So she shot 1,000 of the same exact shots - the X drill - to improve it. Exhausting just watching her abbreviated vid!
 
I was one of three brothers, no matter what sport I liked I excelled. My older brother if he liked the sport he'd work out develop his body to perform and did very well. Our younger brother thought he would be as good as us, didn't work out that way he cried because of his expectations. Every ones body is hardwired differently, and that's the way it was/is.

When I read the OP my first thought was what's this guys Fargo and what's his pool IQ. Not really enough information but I'm leaning towards the low end.

Read the whole thread, which was mostly a bashfest. That's ok, I've done my share of that, though usually not to a new guy. Though it is tough to take seriously a guy who calls a Sharivari post a "puff piece".

As to Lowells post here, 99% of APA 3's work more on their next beer or going outside for a couple tokes than they do on their strokes. Ditto 4's, 5's and most 6/7's also.
 
Basically, like any sport or skilled activity, have a willingness to learn / listen to develop a skilled technique and have the desire to practice that correctly plus wanting to win. Kind of a major DUH...

When you see overhead views of players you start to see a lot of curvy strokes. Maybe they are steering the shot, there's no way to tell unless every view was from overhead. I have been more than surprised how many strokes that I have seen that veer, even on the final stroke. If you guys have not seen it you aint paying attention. if you watch on a PC you can hit left/right arrows and jump 5 seconds back/forward to make sure that you just saw what you thought you saw.
