Universal Cues - Aloysius Yapp

Does Predator actually make anything they sell, tables, cues, balls …etc?
Yes, Predator makes money on everything they sell. :-)

Predator Arcos by Aramith, a Saluc brandname. Prior to XinBiing coming into the market with Cyclops & Dynaspheres and after the closing of Hyatt, it's my understanding Saluc was the only manufacturer of phenolic billiard balls in the entire world. If you see a phenolic ball set labelled made in Belgium, it's Saluc.

Tables made in Spain, by company that makes Kim Steel tables. I heard Dani Sanchez helped design the Carom table.

Predator cues are made in Taishan Guangdong province in China.

Predator cloth is from Japan.

I doubt Brunswick makes anything. That's just the way of the world. They design it, others make it. It's OK.

Pred cloth is China sourced. either ANDY or CPBA would be my guess.

I have a Universal cue with uni-lock. The last cue I used while I could still play. It's very good. The one I had was on par with a nice Lucasi, maybe even an old Predator. Nice finish and quality throughout. I have seen Universal cues that were not as good, so the quality seems to vary a bit. If you can look it over first, I'd recommend them. Mine has a very nice hit and came with a normal maple shaft that actually was of high quality, at least for a production cue.

I've owned the Universal Nova before and I've test hit some of their cues. The cues are really great quality, but for the price, I would rather go for a cuelees.

The nova shaft is really good. It has low deflection and good performance. It's basically a Revo with a dampened feel and sound. I didn't love the feel of it if I'm totally honest but the performance is basically on par with the Revo.

Seems Universal is the latest temporary intrusion into the "what's cool" market in Shanghai... Many sold off or packed up their Zen/SW or other expensive eye candy (after trying HOW, Andy, Cuetec and whatever other shaft marketed as the dog's bollocks) for the Cuetec all-carbon silliness, and now that's run it's mileage, leaving Universal as the latest flavour. To be honest, the price is better than the usual listed price for the latest hype. Hit with a lot of them, and seems my local is doing a good job of selling them. I think they are, in a word, "alright".

They put a lot of money into the game right now, they sponsor a lot of players now and they sponsored big tournaments in Asia.
I like some of the cues they make in terms of looks and the price is nice. Never hit with one though. I was actually toying with the idea of getting a cue from them, a Plain Jane, but I got big expenses coming up and the last thing I need is another cue... but who knows, you how it goes, sitting on the computer late at night, having one beer too many and next thing you know, there is a package on the way...

I've hit a few of them, and I cannot say they are bad or good. They do the job. Just like many other cues do. It's almost as if price, technical spiel and marketing don't matter at all...
