I've played for a long time but now i'm older and don't play much anymore but now i'm going to try to give back what i learned try to do what i always wanted to do

I have collected some awesome cues through the years and watched a lot of new builder make there mark on the industry
I hope to be a great source for you all one day but for now. it's just going to be one at a time for now.

What's up y'all? It's been a minute since I played pool seriously. Played at "old school" Raleigh-area places regularly back in the day - Brass Taps and Rack'm Up West primarily. Found the page and thought I'd relive some of the past and maybe take up shooting again...

Greetings everyone, I'm Eddie and happy to be able to join this forum and community and from the Pensacola, FL area.

I'll be 50 next year and the only real sport\competition I've ever been a part of is Bowling and did this since I was five all the way up until my early twenties. I thought about getting serious, like touring, but life happened and I didn't really want to do life on the road especially being married so I moved on. I've tried a lot of hobbies in the past 20 or so years and the only one that really stuck for a little while was pinball machines, but after owning a game, I would end up getting bored with it once I figured it out, so the end experience it gave, for me, was similar to a very very expensive video game hobby so I decided it wasn't for me anymore.

I always enjoyed playing pool when I was younger and my friends and I would play pretty regularly when we were teenagers in the local pool hall, but that's pretty much where that ended. I did own a pool table about 25 years ago, and even though it was a 3-piece slate, it was the most inexpensive one you could buy and also I didn't really have a good size room for it, so I eventually sold it.

So that brings me to today.....

My dedicated game room is 12' x 20' with a narrow entryway, so I went with a 7-footer. Delivery is this week, and here’s what’s going in to start:

• Table: 7ft Diamond PRC Pro-Am (3-piece slate). The installer is using King Cobra rolled cement and Bondo for the seams.
• Light: Diamond 5' x 2' (was gonna order a Littman later down the line, but dealer gave a decent discount when purchasing a table and they basically are the same light and prefer this style vs. the perimeter lights)
• Cloth: Simonis 860 in Tournament Blue
• Balls: Aramith Super Pro set, plus an Aramith 6-dot Pro Cup cue ball for spin feedback
• Cues: Valhalla by Viking to start while I rebuild my stroke (shout out to the Average Joe's review), some GSE house cues for guests, a 42" cue for my 6-year-old daughter, and a couple of shorties for tight rail shots along the 12' wall
• Accessories: Diamond wooden triangle, Taom Pyro chalk, Cuetec Bowtie tool, and a slip-on moosehead bridge

I also do plan to join some leagues once I start practicing at home and getting a little better with the basics since it's been quite a while since I played. My local area does have APA and NAPA leagues and will probably join one for each and start with 8-Ball and once I get a little better, then look maybe at 9 or 10-Ball. I would also eventually like to participate in some tournaments as I used to in Bowling and enjoyed the atmosphere, engaging and meeting others and the competition. I also figured or rather hoped in 10 years to retire and it would be fun to travel with my spouse to tournaments around the country.

Mostly, I'm just here to enjoy the game, learn from the depth of knowledge on these boards, and talk shop.

I'm an old guy who worked in a pool hall and played heavily in the 1990's and early 2000's and then stopped when I got married. I'm just now coming back to it 20 years later. I'm originally from Central Jersey and New York, but now live in Colorado north of Denver.

I'm restarting in the APA to get my feet wet and work with training wheels, but I hope to get back to tournament play. I bought a lower-end Joss to match the feel of my old Joss and Richard Black cues, which I plan to sell to cover some bills.

A lot of my searches lead to results here on the forums, so I figured I would join. This seems to be the place to find answers.
