Templates vs usual wooden racks and break balls

When using a wooden rack, we determine whether a break ball is in the "rack zone" by whether the rack will interfere with the ball, and if so, it gets spotted up table. When using a template rack, which obviously has no width outside the 14 balls racked, is a break ball considered in the rack...

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

None. I could make an argument about the ridiculous rule where the money ball is in the jaws of the pocket, and loss of game is called because the player didn’t mark the pocket, but, Christ on a bike, whatever the rules are, know them and abide by them, no excuses!

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

No, not all those rules, just ball foul rules.

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

No, different “divisions”, using APA parlance, e.g. APA Masters plays All ball while “regular” plays CB ; or entire leagues run by a LO, or even game played. For instance, since 8 has the widest appeal, CB fouls, 9 on the fence (All balls or CD), 10 and 14.1 All balls, all played within the same...

Why Pool Leagues Should Embrace “ALL BALL FOULS”

IMHO, the bolded was unwarranted, in spite of your attempt to soften it with "he is correct on this." Dr Dave has promoted the sport very well and I enjoy and support his efforts. Regarding the topic as originally being debated, I see no reason not to structure play with tiered rules...

My modest collection of Adam and others

Here is a photo of my modest collection of cues. 1 Adam cue case, found via trading with a member here on AZB. I think I paid $75. 2 What I believe to be an Adam AS-1. A friend gave me this cue, which started me on Adam cues. It started out with a dark green wrap. I had it replaced with...

    Better than Phenolic

Are you using one of those fancy chalks? I have found that the phenolic tip on my break cue does not accept Taom V10. I chalk up with plain ol’ Masters and it’s fine.

Interesting article on the decline of Bowling

I'm sure there are many factors why bowling has declined, but I will tell you why I left the sport in the 90s. I'd show up at the lanes for league night with two bowling balls, one a strike ball and one for spares. Maybe one more if I were entering a tournament and I was unfamiliar with the...

Need some advice on what to do at my local hall

At my local hall there are eight 7' tables. The TAP league operator runs a "mini-cash" tournament on Mondays. I like the format. It's a race to two: 10-ball, 8-ball, then if tied at 1-1, 9-ball. Most players go to two. Recognized strong players go to three. (If it's hill-hill after three...

New WPA Official Rules of Pool … Learn About All the Changes

Now if only someone can convince the APA to discard the “take what you make” 8-ball break rule….. Disclaimer: I no longer play in the APA.

Can’t get a straight, accurate answer from anyone. What is the story of this cue? Mispelled Mizerak (MiSerak)

Reminds me of the "Longunes" (it was so small as to be barely legible, but it was definitely misspelled) wristwatch someone tried to sell me a loooooooooong time ago....

How often do you see your local players with a really good, and solid Pre shot routine?

Many bangers hold the cue too far back where the arm angle is not perpendicular to the cue. Also, many bangers even with the arm perpendicular to the cue hold it too far back because they are watching too many videos of pros, and have ridiculously long bridge lengths. Non-pros (myself...

What does a good stroke feel like?

Wobbly, you have been working with me to great effect, and thanks…. Although I may be a C or a C+ player, I can confidently say that I usually don’t consciously “feel” a good stroke. But I damn sure know a bad one immediately.

Fargo Starter Rating Affecting “True” Average?

That’s weird. My screen doesn’t have anything on the graph area where yours shows the “550” box and it doesn’t have the big green dot under the 550. EDIT: Did you click on the line to show the 550 box?
