Adam Savage, Pool Player. Who knew?

Nice. Now I know that the 'Mythbuster' who got drunk and wiped out on a treadmill liked pool. Now I kinda believe him when he says 'I'm cool' sprawled out on the floor.

    Survey says

While this might be interesting...at least for a short while, it would not be helpful. Different instructors teach different strokes and listeners would have to sift thru contradictory advice all the time. It's like that famous golf quote, "99% of the tips in Golf Magazine are correct and...

How to Be More Accurate With Jacked-Up or Elevated-Cue Shots

Building the stance around the front leg is great when jacked up past a certain point. Neils goes into detail how he does it in the vid below. I really like this way of getting into an elevated shot stance.

Anyone clean their tips on the carpet before putting it back in the case?

Carpets all the way. I play at one hall that has beautiful stone flooring on the bottom level but the owner failed to factor in what happens when drunks bang balls off the tables so all the house sets have chips in them and the cueballs are so gauged up that any serious players just bring...

Retaining Ability from Performance Enhancing Drugs

Bahahaha. Here's what google says on the matter in case you're too sauced to even look it up.... The medical industry encompasses businesses involved in providing healthcare services, manufacturing medical equipment and pharmaceuticals, and offering medical insurance, playing a crucial role...

Anyone clean their tips on the carpet before putting it back in the case?

If I never wanted to be invited again or if I was trying to pick a fight...yes.

Anyone clean their tips on the carpet before putting it back in the case?

Nothinig damnp unless u want a rock hard tip. dry napkin works as well as a dry carpet. Tho I don't think I've ever been in a pool hall that had carpets in the type of condition where anyone would notice if you wiped your tip on it.

    Does it Make Any Sense?

Slightly better 2 options.... 1. Work on developing a straight stroke that hits where it aims up. 2. If the stroke is very consistently repeatable, tho not straight, learn where to aim up on the ball so you hit center Plenty of players found that they have a slight arc or crookedness in their...

    Best Shape Drills

I wasn't aware that the Bert's original is frozen. Thought that was the advanced progression as Niels lays it out, suggesting players do indeed start with the balls off the cushion. Personally I love this drill for rotation. It just forces you into hitting tough unavoidable shots that...

    Does it Make Any Sense?

That could explain why he cues up so far from the cb compared to just about any other pro. But really, Busty plays a stroke that travels on such a big arc it is noticeable to the naked eye at real speed. Combine stroking on an arc with cueing up to the cb a mile away compared to other pros...

    Best Shape Drills

I'd recommend Tor's pattern puzzle book. Esp for 8ball, choosing the correct, high percentage pattern for your current shot repertoire is half the battle if not more. The advanced drill I posted above is more for rotation players who are forced into those shots all the time. As an 8ball...

    Best Shape Drills

Bert Kinister has excellent drills, many of which are on YT. Neils, a former student of his also posted some of them on his channel, including 'the 6-pointed star' which Feijen claims is the single best positional drill that works on many critical shots. He has broken that all-encompassing...

    Does it Make Any Sense?

You're missing the point of an intended touch of spin. 1/8th of right would be the intention so 1/4 will still be a deviation of just 1/8 of intended. It's not like the player is aiming up a touch to one side of center and still playing it as if at true center. The mishit is still of just...

    Does it Make Any Sense?

in both cases he's 1/8th off intended. Point is there is less guess work if the entire dispersion range is on one side of the ball.

    Does it Make Any Sense?

I disagree here. I think TheJV said it correctly that a slightly variable degree of a known side spin is more predictable than a slightly smaller amount of either left or right. In other words,, let's say a player has a 1/4 tip dispersion on their cb contact... going for center ball and ending...

    Does it Make Any Sense?

The argument used by the 'touch of spin' guys is that hitting dead center is actually really tough and you are likely to get a touch of this or that anyway so they choose which side spin will be on the ball and can better predict ball interactions. Both Ronnie and Sigel lay this out in...

    Does it Make Any Sense?

No. There is a school of thought that the likes of Earl, Ronnie O, and Mike Sigel subscribe to which advocates for pretty much never trying to hit center, but they use trace amounts of spin. Significant amounts can't be good imo so he's either working on something or just needs a more...

Do you have a house bet?

nah, golf is different. Plenty of guys can play their best golf without anything on it. The pressure of a low round is real whether you have any money on it or not....it usually trumps whatever bets may be in play anyway. A rare few can play anywhere near their best game of pool for nothing.

    Straight Stroking Drills

Ye but the problem still remains, just masked by easier equipment. The issue is that when you power up, you have breakdowns in your mechanics that cause you to mishit the cb and miss shots. TinMan and JayHelfert mentioned an exercise to help with this that I picked up off a young Corey...
