    Good Old Days Owning Poolroom

Yours was a room with a manageable nut. You could have just as easy had a place that could not pay the bills even in the 60's. The problem with most pool rooms that go out of business is a bad business plan based on unrealistic projections of what they can make. The principles today are no...

It's NOT the cue or the shaft that makes a GR8 player

It helps though. I saw Jose Patrica lose $4000.00 and part of the spot was he could not use his own cue he had to use a house cue. He tried repeatedly to get out of that part of the spot even offering more weight if he could use his own cue, but the guy was not budging. Jose had to quit.

Pool rooms that closed down due to rent increases?

A sign on the wall of a pool room I was in once. There was no one in the place by the way. "IF YOU HAVE NOTHING TO DO, DON'T DO IT HERE" They were as much as saying, all you are to us is a dollar sign, not a friend or a customer.

Pool rooms that closed down due to rent increases?

Usually the last thing you want to do is raise the rent and have a tenant leave. From the time they move and you have to rehab the building and find a new tenant you lose a lot of money. Even when you get a new tenant at the higher rate it could take 2 years year of more before you are even...

Big bucks for old production cues? Are you nuts!?

Not really. My wife as a hobby had a thrift store for a while. It was amazing what she would get her hands on. She sold 10 of thousands on dollars worth of stuff over the years that could have early been found on a trash pile. The value of something is a willing seller and a willing buyer. In...

Big bucks for old production cues? Are you nuts!?

They represent a "Poor mans collectable". Few are ever going to own a Balabushka or Szamboti but they can have an old Meucci or Joss affordably.

    Ever Miss An Easy Shot

Years ago I remember Danny D. missing a ball close to the pocket playing one pocket and it sold out the game. The room erupted a bit because a lot of people were betting. Danny Just turned and said, "Nothing about this game is automatic". I saw Miz miss a straight in shot like 2 feet from the...

Is it even possible this is real?

Probably, he signed a million things. I used to get him to sign stuff at the BCA show every year. I must have dozens of his sig. He would sit at the table and sign hundreds of pictures, cues ball and so on.

Why Do Grown Men Stare At Women in

There actually may be an answer. Most men are so insecure about their own sexuality they have to show other men they are interested in women. You will even see it on here with some avatars. They have to show they like girls. It sounds goofy because you know you are not gay but you still feel the...

CUES, To Copy or Not to Copy...MY Clarification

I think there is little new under the sun when it comes to cue designs. It is one thing to make a copy and try to pass it off as another cue in other words counterfeiting and just making a similar design. Cue makers are not innocents. They copy from each other what that was probably already...

Gandy Sportman or Brunswick Sport King

I have owned both and the Sport king gives the Gandy the 5 ball. I don't like any Gandy tables and I have owned several Big G's. I used to buy and sell tables at one time. I don't even like playing on a Gandy.

    Tommy Kennedy How good?

No you are not but Tommy is happy to tell people about his life in the hope he can inspire them. Of course if others repeat the story it can come off like a criticism, gossip.

    Tommy Kennedy How good?

He actually is kind of correct. Tommy lost his whole bank roll like $13,000. then like a few nights later he won a tournament and lost the prize money the same night to Dennis Hatch. His car got broke into and his cue stolen. It was a week that changed his life. Then it had something to do...
