If you want a longer ferrule without cutting the shaft down, you can just drill a hole and install a longer tenon. Say you have a 3/4 tenon, if you cut it off, drill and install a longer tenon and then trim it to 1 inch, you have effectively added 1/4 inch. Joe

I've made a few with deer antler joints and a 5/16 14 flat face. I've made 2 solid antler, and one antler sleeved over wood, then plugged with phenolic, and I can tell that the solid antler joints have a higher pitch "ping" to them. Personally, I love the way all 3 hit. Joe
