I would say there are a couple reasons. One, the wood rail would soak up more of the glue than the slate does and would react differently. Also, after a couple times, you would end up with glue build up , which could change the rail height. It would also be tougher to work with the glue...

You may want to consider having someone familiar with moving Diamonds move it. Most moving companies I've dealt with don't know a whole lot about moving pool tables, and I'm sure there are a lot less that know about the right way to move a Diamond.
