Balabushka - Is there any cue you could compare the hit to?

George bought these hanger bolts at the small hardware store down the block from his house. I had always liked the way his cues played ( I owned several) so I started Joss Cues using the same construction technique. I got the same result. A solid playing cue with a soft sound. I used this...

Best Black Players Of All Time

I played most of the Black players mentioned even for money. I spent a lot of time hustling in the Black pool rooms. There was always more gamble than in the White rooms. Several Black players not mentioned: Buffalo Jerry, Blue Shirt, Chicago Paul, Willie Munson, Black Artie? from Chi...

    When Iwas a kid

You missed a few other players like me, Savanna Red, Grady, Tommy Lambert, New York Blackie, Don Watson, Detroit Whitey, Pucket and of course Bobby Chapman. $1000 a game 9 ball was common and sometimes even $5000 a game. A new Corvette was $4000. I know because I had one. I also had a 10,000...

Worst Player You Know of That Made a Living Hustling?

Never, but who could resist a guy in a funny hat with a wallet on a chain in his back pocket? How about Kilroy with his gift of gab and a big cigar hanging out of his mouth? Who wouldn't play this guy for ten or twenty? Ran into these guys all over the US when I was hustling pool. Never saw...

A New Way to One Hole

I like one pocket the way it is but for tournaments and gambling I have a new version of one pocket I have been trying. I call it PHX one pocket. Ten ball rack just like ten ball. Same rules as one pocket. Each ball in your pocket is worth one point. Win with 6 points. The only difference is...

To spin or not to spin?

Mosconi and E. Taylor said it best. They both told me to only use spin to make a ball that is not "ON" without it or to play position that you can not get with center ball. I am a believer in center ball and with tighter pockets it makes it much easier to run out. Try it. You'll like it. Bill S.

    Zero-X system???

I have been playing pool since I was 4 years of age. I am now 75. I grew up on slow cloth and big pockets. It was necessary to have a powerful stroke to move the cue ball great distances. To develop that kind of power you needed to use a lot of wrist action. When I returned to playing pool a...

Will playing Snooker make me a better pool player?

I had a 12 foot snooker table for 15 years and a Gold Crown as well. Snooker and pool are entirely different games. You play position in each game in a different way. An example would be a shot close to the rail in a corner pocket. In snooker the best you can do is pot the ball and get a few...

pin indentification - 'real' radial pin?

Looks like a Radial. Try taking a straw, suck up a little water and fill the shaft with the water. Let it sit for a couple of minutes and draw the water out and let it dry for a day with the joint side of the shaft pointing up. The wood should expand. Make sure you don't get any water on the...
