    billiards coins

Brass Billiard tokens can be found on EBay. Between the 1920s and 1940s they were a way to get around the gambling laws and also a way for room owners to control loose cash. Imprinted with the names of old halls, they can be great memorabilia. They are the size of quarters.

New to the forum and pretty new to pool

Welcome Ashley. I remember when I was new to the board. There are a lot of very knowledgeable and friendly people here who can help you a lot. I have lots of friends here I have never met. Pool is funny in that the better you get, the harder it becomes. (Just stay away from the NPR page...

extra long cues length or weight or balance?

I can only speak for myself. The extra two inches avoid the need for a mechanical bridge in a significant number of shots.

How do I deal with cue with too forward balance?

Estimated, not calculated, based on a few assumptions. This is a simple statics problem.

I have been aiming wrong for so long

There are good arguments to be made for both methods. Of late, I am in the CB last camp. Once I have my aiming line established, with my stance and bridge set, it is not changing, and the OB is not going to move from its original position. (DUH!!!) I look at the CB last to monitor my...

How do I deal with cue with too forward balance?

This change in weight and balance point would result in about a 10% increase in the weight on your bridge hand. Does this really makes a difference, or are you telling yourself that it does? Is it really the balance point, or is it maybe the natural pivot point that is making the difference?

If a "custom" is not made to YOUR specifications and preferences, you might as well consider it a "production" cue.

Fun thread.. Where are you from and what do you call it?

New Orleans metro area. Some say New Orlins, some blue bloods say New Orl-yens. NO ONE says New Orleeens. Coke or soft drink. Peck-our Schurn Grassy median of a divided street is the "neutral ground." Some of us "do groceries," but some of us "make groceries." Mayonnaise is "my-nez" (it is...

In One Pocket, what do you call it when....

.... You play the cue ball safe, deep in the corner near your opponents goal pocket, without a feasible bank or kick shot? My brother and I have started calling that zone "the armpit." As in, "Man, you really put me in the armpit that time." Just curious if anyone has any other slang they use...

    The Worst Rule in Pool

Yes, I do own my own table: an 8-ft Valley with custom rails for tight pockets, modified shelf for a deeper throat, and Simonis 860 cloth. No, your post assumes scoop shots are more risky to the cloth, when in fact I maintain they are not. A "jam" jump shot burns and dents the cloth - just...

    The Worst Rule in Pool

The rule against "scooped" jump shots. It is premised on the myth that a scoop shot is a deliberate miscue, which has been debunked. Any rule that makes it an "option" to call ball/pocket in 10-ball is bad. If one insists on allowing slop in 9-ball, then 10-ball must be a called game by...
