    I need ALL you experts

It didn't reverse off of the first rail because the cloth is brand new, and the friction coefficient is too low. Corey would not have played the shot without right hand spin because he couldn't predict the exact angle he would get going into the first cushion. If it turned out to be a slight...

    I need ALL you experts

It was bottom right. I don't doubt Corey could have pulled off the shot with straight bottom, especially on slippery conditions like that, but the spin we see off of the 2nd and 3rd cushions was definitely not a result of contact with the 1st cushion. The cueball goes pretty much...

    Bullseye Billiards: shot 40 help?

Unless the rails are super springy, I wouldn't expect the ball to follow the path in the diagram. It's possible you could do it with high and a touch of left, but at that speed the cueball is going to want to bend after contacting the first cushion, forcing it away from the grey line. If I...

    Tourney Buy Back?

The DCC is the only buyback tourney I've played in, so my experience is limited. They don't use "brackets" per se - instead, they re-draw after each round. This resolves the issue of finding a place to insert buybacks into a bracket, but the downside is that it makes it possible for a player...

How many balls (14.1)should an a,b, and c player run?

The experience aspect with straight pool is huge. Today's average A player may struggle to break 70 in straight pool simply because they don't have much experience with the game - they don't know very many different break shots, where to go into the rack and what spin to use, how to identify...

Can you be too smart to play good pool?

To me, there is distinction to be made between being smart vs. being intelligent. If being intelligent is having the capacity to learn while being smart is having a high level of knowledge about a particular subject, then I would have to say that all great players are smart about the game of...

A question for A players only...

I never experienced a rapid, huge jump in my game, but you may find my experience useful anyway. Oddly, the best thing I ever did for my game was walking away from pool for over a year. I had built my rotation game up to the A level through years of playing 7 days a week, and I was a pure...

The Most Powerful Stroke, Past & Present...???

I think the Miz has to be included in a discussion about the biggest strokes of all time. For current players, I would add Hatch and Deuel. Aaron

    Ternament shakes

Lots of good tips so far on the mental side of things. I get anxious in the early rounds of tournaments, so I understand (to some degree, at least) what you are going through. There are some supplements/herbal remedies that can help as well. While I have not used these things to help me...

Draw vs Follow Which is Harder to Execute

This may be putting the cart before the horse, but I'd say it could be bridge related. I find that an open bridge works better for me for most follow shots, whereas I almost exclusively use a closed bridge for draw shots. For high speed maximum follow shots (as with forcing the ball around 3...

How Would You Play This? 8ball CSI 2014 Finals

I'm an advocate for this shot, but railbird pointed out that the scratch may be more in play than it appears to us from this camera angle. I have been fooled by these camera angles before, so I definitely can't disagree with him. I do still feel the shot is there, however, and I think the...

How Would You Play This? 8ball CSI 2014 Finals

Nice post Jude. I've been around since the RSB days, but these WWYD threads are one of the few things that will bring me out of lurk mode nowadays. Thanks for the thread. Aaron

How Would You Play This? 8ball CSI 2014 Finals

I don't know, to me it looks like the tangent line goes to the pocket, so I think you could avoid the scratch by 3-4" just hitting it soft with follow. I would be tempted to play it with a bit of inside as well, just to slow the cueball down a bit, and that would take the scratch out of play...

How Would You Play This? 8ball CSI 2014 Finals

Well, he points at the foot rail where he thinks he going to hit, and he put inside on the cueball. I think he believed he could shorten it up a bit and come between the 4 and the long rail. I don't know why the thought he could hit the foot rail there, since it appeared he over cut the 14 and...

How Would You Play This? 8ball CSI 2014 Finals

Yeah, I like that shot fine. Would you have played the back cut on the 14 if you had ended up where he did? I know he was kinda unlucky getting hooked on the 8, but I'm still surprised he played it that way when he had a route with no traffic. Aaron

How Would You Play This? 8ball CSI 2014 Finals

I don't mind this shot either, but I think if I try to float over I go all the way to the rail and play the 14 in the left side pocket. I think that gives you a little more running room with the cueball, you don't have to worry about being jacked up over the 5, and you still have no difficulty...
