Snooker World No. 1 John Higgins in betting scandal

I'm quite certain Ortman was there as I distinctly remember watching that event on TV. I could easily be wrong though.

Snooker World No. 1 John Higgins in betting scandal

Yeah but to be fair there's not telling what Earl was thinking. It could easily have been, "Pfft, there's no way any of these lambs can beat me, there ain't no way Ima takin' a dive and letting them screw me out of muh $50,000! No deal!"

Ok, but do you regard the eight players who took part as scumbags, though?

Snooker World No. 1 John Higgins in betting scandal

Jay, we've all heard rumors about this, you are saying that the 1991 International Challenge of Champions was in fact rigged by the eight players so that Mike LeBron won? If that's the case then the player lineup at the time included players such as Jim Rempe, Nick Varner, Johnny Archer, Tony...

Snooker World No. 1 John Higgins in betting scandal

It's not being reported that he actually did fix a match. In the UK that would carry criminal charges and yes, possibly (even likely) jail time. If all he did was enter into an agreement to fix a match then it could be argued that it's conspiracy, but that would be a matter for the law in...

Snooker World No. 1 John Higgins in betting scandal

He should be barred from pool too, if you ask me. If they did that to Shoeless Joe, the should do it to John goddamn Higgins.

    2010 World Championship

These 15 minute breaks after every four games are really, really tedious. They need to get rid of that, especially since the players tend to go out while the balls are being racked a lot of the time.

    Is 10-ball the perfect game?

10-ball is the perfect rotation game for the pros. Eight ball is just a joke - it's waaay too easy for pro-level players, and nine-ball has become similar with the way the balls break so easily (it's like it's been 'solved'). One pocket is by far the most interesting game for pool fans to...

Billiards/Pool is big in other countries. Why no Olympics?

I for one kind of hope pool doesn't get in the Olympics. I sorta think it would turn into some ridiculous gong show, races to 5 alternate break nine ball or something like the World Pool championships has become. Hardly a way for the sport to put it's best foot forward if you ask me.

    Aiming trainers

Believe it or not most aiming trainers are a waste of time. You don't aim a pool cue like you do a rifle, it's more like golf in that most of the 'aiming' that a good player does happens before they ever get down on the shot. Therefore, if you are having trouble with aiming, I recommend...

    Explain cues to me please

Roger's raquet is worth $89... http://www.tennisonshop.com/wilson-tennis-rackets/new-style-wilson-k-six-one-tour-90-tennis-racquet.html The thing's won him like $80 million too. Pretty sick ROI if you ask me. Edit: Actually in tennis, advances in string have had far more impact on the game...

    Greg Sullivan

LOL, it was the tables at the USBT that prompted me to make the comment. I saw a ridiculous number of unusual bounces off those rails, and many bounce so stiffly that they don't seem to catch running english properly at all. It's not something unique to one table or two either, I think...

    Greg Sullivan

They do, no question, but there really is something wrong with the rails. The number of 'flyer' bounces that you get is way beyond normal.

    Greg Sullivan

See if you can get him to do something about the crazy bounces off the rails on the bar tables. It's making them almost unplayable. What he really needs to do is reverse engineer the Olhausen Accu-Fast rails for Diamond. Olhausens are crappy tables but those rails play great.

    Explain cues to me please

I have. I've hit balls with cues like Black Boar, Paul Mottey, Joss West, Southwest, Bill McDaniel, Keith Josey and Gina. They all hit great. Not a single one of them hits any better than the other though - and certainly none of them hit any 'better' than a $400 production cue, or even a $10...

    Explain cues to me please

Cues are 100% personal preference. Efren played for years with a $15 cue that was made in Taiwan and did things no one had ever seen before. Stephen Hendry won more than $15 million playing with a one-piece cue that was worth about $50 (though he did pay a £20,000 reward to get it back once...

    Nitty behavior

LOL, well I'd sure like to play you some then! No, the reality of gambling situations is that if you're a good player and you want to get action you need to be prepared to give up weight. On the reverse side the 'matching up' allows weaker competition to play against better players for stakes...

    Nitty behavior

I remember once matching up in some even sets with a good road player. We had played before and broken even, so now we were upping the bet and playing for maybe $300 or so for races to nine, nine ball. It figured to be a good match and plenty of railbirds were there to sweat it and sidebet...
