    Table light

Inexpensive DIY Light [/ATTACH]Runnintable, I built a quick and easy light for a temporary nine foot Gold Crown setup. The table was to be used for a short while in this location and then moved to a permanent home. However, I gained some useful information in the process. The ceiling in...

    Sport King and Anniversary Rails

Gentlemen, With the exception of the rail counters and Brunswick badges, are Sport King and Anniversary rails and rail castings identical? From photos, I see that everything below the bottom edge of the rail is obviously different, but the topsides of both tables look remarkably similar...

    Gold crown speculation

GC Refinish The feet on my GCIII were about that rough. I sanded the rust off, primed with metal primer from spray can, then painted with Valspar gold metal flake. Topped with 2 coats of clear. They look great, and the cost was ten bucks. jfe

    Cushion Profile for Sport King?

Sport King Cushions Okay, RKC, thanks for the info. I've got a Sport King coming soon, and I think it may be in very good condition. And the UPS guy brought me a Makita 9031 today, too. This is my lucky week. Joe

    Cushion Profile for Sport King?

Thanks, RKC. When you say there is no equivalent, are you referring to the composition of the rubber or to the profile? Or, more precisely, is the profile of a Diamond Black K55 different than the Monarch K55? Joe

    Gold Crown Journey

Refinishing GC Castings Ken, Regardless of what finish you choose, it will eventually chip or get scratched. If you sent it out to be finished originally, you will have to send it back out for repair or refinish. I chose to do my GC3 metal with a finish I could do at home. I sanded all...

    Which Gold Crown to purchase?

Which Gold Crown to Buy... Hi, zumpa21. Pay attention to the formica. It's basically non-repairable. If it's dented, scratched, or damaged in any way, you'll have to live with it. Actually, it can be replaced, but there is a significant risk factor there. I would avoid that headache. As...

    Parts That Match Gold Crowns

I'm looking to build up a stock of GC parts. What other tables, Brunswick or otherwise, use the same castings, pockets, and rails as Gold Crowns 1,2, and 3? Any help would be appreciated. Joe

What should I expect from my home-made ball polisher?

Ball Polisher Hello to all. If your polisher isn't getting all the balls perfectly clean and shiny, then something is wrong. I have used carnauba wax, express wax. water, soap, plastic polish, commercial ball cleaners....you name it. I have never detected any variation in the way the balls...

    Pool ball polisher

Homemade Polisher Just a little variation here.....I used sponges from Home Depot. Cut 2- 2x4x8 sponges in half to yield 4 pieces, 1x4x8. 3M spray for adhesive. Sponge thickness reduced the inside diameter of the bucket to almost exactly the diameter of the buffing pad. Without a separator...

    Why do slates lift?

Charge Full Price, or Not? Charliehustle, That depends on what that full price included. The repair you describe certainly involves less labor and logistics than a complete table move and re-cloth job. As such, it should be priced accordingly. However, if your guy's "full price" was some...

    Why do slates lift?

Slates lifting or dropping... Charliehustle, This information applies to wood cabinetry in general, and certainly to pool tables. Wood reacts to load and moisture. Wood will compress, stretch, bend, swell or shrink in accordance with the conditions it is exposed to. Usually, these changes...

Why doesn't someone have this as a business?

Gold Crown Refurbishing Anyone who is already in the pool table business can pick up a used table and make a few bucks by flipping it. No problem. However, their established business is subsidizing the flip. The original poster wanted to create a stand alone refurbishing business from...

Why doesn't someone have this as a business?

Pool Table Refurb Business? Derangedhermit, You're making a mistake that is very common to persons who want to start up a new small business. All your initial figures and cost estimates are very skewed because you are thinking in terms of "best possible scenario". Think instead, on worst...

    Gold Crown 3 question

Oops, my mistake In post #4 of this thread, I originally said...."practically any rail is a good candidate for paint restoration". That is not true. I meant to say "any apron". :embarrassed2:I have since edited the original. Sorry about that. jfe

    Gold Crown 3 question

GCIII Rail Refinish jdxprs, The following information is given from the perspective of my experience with plastic laminate in a general construction setting, and not necessarily from pool table repair. In the 1970's and 80's plastic laminate was the hands down choice for kitchen and bathroom...

GC Pro 8 Dearnold, As of night before last, on Craigslist, there is a Pro 8 GC in Tennessee and one in California. Their condition is unknown. PM me if you want to investigate them, and I will provide a link. Regardless, your location will play a big part in how you can get what you want...

Wanted: Tips on clothing in general, and suits in particular

Attire for Pool A bit of nostalgia here.....my favorite attire for pool is lace up leather dress shoes, nice slacks, and long sleeve sport or dress shirt. It reminds me of my college days in 1968 at North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. Back then, lots of guys dressed up to attend...
