    (Un)Popular Opinion on Fargo Rate

Then they're really good at stalling. ha ha ha. I've never come across a player that was good in one game and not another. Its just "balls and a stick".

Numbers on Aramith balls not flush?

It's because the balls are old. When they are brand new, most are perfect. They shrink over time. And different parts of the balls shrink differently. I have a set of new old stock Rachig, which are regarded as some of the best balls ever made. They were made in West Germany. The balls don't...

    Tournament Format

I also do everything is wild. No calling the 9 bs. At the player's meeting, I say to everyone, "make an effort to play at a fast pace. No slow play. If you don't know what to do, ride the 9!"

    Tournament Format

I do 2 formats. Both are single elimination, when everyone else and their mother is doing double elimination in my area, and often with true double elimination finals. My first format I call "afternoon delight". It starts at NOON on a weekday, not a weekend. It's for a different crowd. Retired...

    Tournament Format

I don't understand the format.... At first I thought you were describing a single elimination 16 man bracket. What are you proposing?

    Tournament Format

I've been hosting single elimination events in the afternoon, with the main draw that they are done early. It's not for everyone, but my players definitely appreciate it.

Numbers on Aramith balls not flush?

I've measured lots of balls over the years with more sophisticated equipment than most have. The number are never flush with the body of the ball. On really old sets, there could be a large difference, that is easily felt in the hands or seen by the eyes.

When Did Simonis Become The #1 Tournament Choice?

I think he was part of 860 history, not 760? I wonder if he was trying to slow down his pinball machine rails. <=== sorry, couldn’t resist;)

When Did Simonis Become The #1 Tournament Choice?

I started playing in 1992 or so. All the legit rooms I went to then in the Philadelphia area had 760. Only the bars had something else, which was always thick, slow, carpet on crooked tables.

    What killed the slip stroke?

That's the main definition on the forums. During the last backwards stroke, the cue remains somewhat stationary, while the hand slips backwards on the butt. The hand eventually gets some traction to the butt, and they move in unison, pulling the butt back slightly more, then stroking it forward...

1990 US Open Sigel & Varner - 5 Inch Pockets

They did one year have the high run challenge on the 10' tables. I think it might have been around 2014. I believe the high run was about 115 by a French player. Bob would remember for sure. The other years on 9' tables it was usually well into the 200's.

    (Un)Popular Opinion on Fargo Rate

The only way to win a tournament of equal peers is to have all 3 of these: play over your head, opponents play under their speed, and you get a few rolls.

1990 US Open Sigel & Varner - 5 Inch Pockets

That hasn’t made an ounce of difference. Old school players in my area that never switched to LD shafts still beat the crap out of the players that did, by the same margin.

1990 US Open Sigel & Varner - 5 Inch Pockets

This is very true. Factory 5” pockets on a Gold Crown are nothing like 5” pockets on furniture style tables.

1990 US Open Sigel & Varner - 5 Inch Pockets

Weird, maybe he had a mental slip or something? Grady was used to playing on triple shimmed GC's because his main game was one pocket. I think Sigel's shot at 6:45 would have went on Emily's Diamond tables, however, in tournament new cloth/ball conditions.
