I'm sure that this would happen if you didn't wipe periodically with a clean cloth - preferably microfiber, but does the alcohol wipe show dirt even when you wipe with a cloth first?

I'd vote for the Diamond racks too. Both kinds give you extra space between the back row of balls and the back of the rack. This makes it easier to remove your fingers and lift the rack without disturbing the racked balls. The wooden version has a kerf in the back of the rack that makes it easy...
