    Legends - Yesterday vs Today

Watch Crane's 150 against Balsis. Two things stood out to me. 1,,,he cowboys the first few racks, and for a legendary position player his racks weren't overwhelmingly impressive. 2,, the announcer waxes glowingly about position play like he never seen it before. Like any game, there's simply...

break cue for the worst breaker

Try all the house cues at your local room. Buy the heaviest best hitting cue there. Replace the ferrule with an good aegis. Replace the tip with a hard buffalo tip. Cut the cue in half a have someone make it into a 2-piece with a thick, big metal joint(brass is pretty good). The heavier and...

Bad Problem with John Showman, (Cue Stolen)

Cuemakers set their watch to "cuemaker time" which is somewhat akin to "house renovation/general contractor time x 3". Your experience is no different than hundreds of thousands of people like you. Not only are most cuemakers irresponsible, they prioritize their jobs. Just because you got your...

Is Max Eberle as big as a goof as I now think?

He's a failed artist, I think. He needs a platform

Why is gambling so popular in pool?

It's less about the gambling and more about the atmosphere, environment, and the people who do the gambling. Watch any movies in the past and note the way pool halls have always been portrayed - a veritable "den of iniquity". Under such circumstances, all the bad things that gambling represents...

Input on best quality shaft blanks?

My guess is the best go out to the best cuemakers and who also deal in volume before it trickles down to you. Straight grain is important but I think high ring count is overblown. I have great hitting cues with shafts of maybe only 3, 4, or 5 grain lines down the middle.

    Cue identification. Poss. Southwest.

I think, not sure, but back then SW cues had a different profile. It was coke bottle shaped so there's a barely noticeable thickness at the grip. Mine does - it's a Kershenbrock SW

    Measuring one's skill level

You can always play bowling. Bowling is a game where you break a 10ball rack and give yourself 2 misses to run the table, and score with a modified bowling scoring system. It is not break dependent because you run the rack like straight pool. The better you get the more consistently you will...

    Measuring one's skill level

Using increments of pluses and minuses is too overdone. Just using A B C D open and pro, I'd add 10 balls to each number. Pro level should be at least 250, and open about 160. But yes, 14.1 is the best indicator because as you say it's not subject fortuitous rolls or the layout of a table after...

So you're saying it's better to be good than look good, eh? Hmmmm, never thought of that. And all this time I thought emulating Efren would make me play like Efren.

Is it good luck or bad luck?

There are no game participants more caught up and whiny about luck than pool players.
