My apologies (This is long and heartfelt)

Allow me to re-cap what you have missed in the past year. 1) Most people here hate the APA or handicap leagues in general 2) People want to talk about aiming systems like they want a poke in the eye 3) A lot of players had played in tournaments and not gotten paid as promised 4) A few trolls...

The inevitable result of "excessive skill" in a handicapped league

I would love to see what data you have that shows that the APA is no longer growing. Every year in Vegas it seems like they have more teams in both 8-ball and 9-ball and their payouts are larger than the previos year (you can see it on their website - not hard to find). The area I play in has...

It gets better and better with the APA

I agree that the worst thing you want is kids playing with no parental instruction. However the second worst thing is to have every parent think that they should have a say. There should be 1 parent representative per team and that is it. The L.O. is probably trying to do a good thing by...

You know the 4's that I am talking about then. The ones who will punish you for 1 mistake.

The inevitable result of "excessive skill" in a handicapped league

Probably used the wrong wording. 4's can make balls. They don't run racks very often at all (I may have seen a couple in my time). but in a big match, I would rather play against a 7 then a 4 any day of the week. I myself have lost to a 4 a fair bit in the last few years. Just my experience...

    Quality life of professional players

Petros, are you saying that you would rather have it not promoted at all, then promoted the way it was done. If that happens to be the only promoter willing to spend the time and money wouldn't you agree that it a good thing. I would rather see more demonstrations like that , then less...

The inevitable result of "excessive skill" in a handicapped league

I don't see that as a bad thing. Do you ? Many tours handicap entry fees to get lower skilled players to come in in. No one is making money other that the participants. Many tournaments handicap games to get lower skilled players to come in. No one is making money other than the participants...

Sean, You are correct. I did not equate the ball spot with your hypothetical solution. My apologies on that. Leagueguy

The inevitable result of "excessive skill" in a handicapped league

Why not introduce a ball spot into the "Equalizer" handicap system? Introduce a ball spot in that system (e.g. "a difference in handicap of two or more between the opposing players" [e.g. a 7 plays a 5] invokes a ball spot for the lower-skill-level player), and you *watch* what happens! It will...

The inevitable result of "excessive skill" in a handicapped league

No need to apologize, you are just stating an opinion. If your L.O. is even thinking that (let alone doing it) then you have a right to be pissed. I just think a little competition is in order. Who kows you might either a) start up a better league, or B) force your L.O. to do a better job. I...

    If you could go back

If I could go back 20 years knowing what i know today, the first thing I would have done different is to buy an APA franchise. That way I could have made a living while being around the game that I love. Just curious if anyone else has the same thought. Leagueguy

The inevitable result of "excessive skill" in a handicapped league

A couple of comments on the above. 1) If a L.O. is actually raising players for the SOLE purpose of breaking up teams to get new players in, then they are shooting themsleves in the foot. I know a few L.O. around my area and i do not think they do that. In fact, in our own league, when a player...

The inevitable result of "excessive skill" in a handicapped league

"I have a player that I really look up to in my local APA league. He's a big money player and one of the higher rated players in the league. One week before the playoffs he totally threw a match so his handicap wouldn't be affected as much. We aren't talking missing a couple shots here and...

    Cutting Added Money

Marcus, just a quick thought. You mention that you go to tournaments based on how much added money. Just curious if you would attend an event if it was posted as "Money added will equal to 50 % of sales from 12:00 to 7:00". We actually had a roomowner do that in our area and only a few people...

    am i being a dousche

I agree with this post 100% Play what you got and re-schedule the rest. In our area, that is what we do all the time when weather becomes an issue. The only exception is in the final week or playoffs. Leagueguy
