Well I decided to put my daughter in the junior APA league recently to improve her lack of social skills she got from me , so we just started the new session that started last week

So we find out our division rep quit unannounced so it was chaos to say the least, so the start changing the teams around to make the league fair
OK I can live with that , the the rep tells me that they are going to let a adult from each team act as sort of a coach but not allow to the table
OK I can live with that,

5 min later some woman from the league office calls for all the parents to come over to the other side of the room for a meeting

She then says the league wants the kids to run the teams with out no out side help , and that we should form a league on the other side of the room to stay out of the way and she has empty score sheets to get started

well that's where I lost it, and voiced my displeasure with a few choice words,

First tell me 1 team sport where there is no coach, they tell me that the kids will teach the kids , really ! that's the blind leading the blind in my book
and they have just cut down what they can learn drastically

So they tell me because parents yell out to the kids it creates chaos
They already have rules for that foul ball in hand and such so what is the big deal

This all comes after they basically held a gun to my girlfriends head to stay in a league or come up with 340 dollars to pay for the forfeits , after she was told the league would help her get players witch they did not and then they let a new team in who did not have to pay rite away,, say what!

My girl has over 500 APA matches and has been a assistant rep myself probably close to 500 , I started a 5 team division that went to 10 teams
It would take a week to figure out how much money I am directly involved in making them

It amazes me how they treat the ones who have put serious money in their pockets

It gets better every day in the APA

I definitely understand where your frustration is coming from. Unfortunately there are parents that want their kids to win at all costs, even if it means illegally coaching them during play.
I think the kids do need a coach, the idea should be to guide the kids in proper play. Kids teaching kids will lead to misinformation and teaching/ reinforcing bad habits.

Good luck to you, for the kids sake.

They just invaded York pa with there bs league. We have a very succesfull summer league that our operator was informed that they were gonna do whatever they had to do to kill it. Why? Pick another night so everyone can prosper and have options to play in both. Anyway want nothing to do with it...Good luck getting better playing in a handicap no called pockets league. Lol The only way to get better is to take your beatings by better players. Plus to me it was more about making money then playing the game. I'm fortunate that we have great bca and acs leagues in my town that are run by people who love the game and just want to promote it.

Sad that it comes down to this kind of crap.

Anything to do with kids is often messed up by the adults. I give you Little league as example number 1. :p

A shame, for sure. Best of luck making something out of this mess.

I think I would have given them 340 choice words to go along with the money they wanted for forfeits and walked out the door. If you have experience with running or helping run leagues why not just start your own juniors league and sanction with the BCAPL or the ACS. The APA is what it is and will never change.

Little Leagues is a perfect example. As a previous player, coach, and official, I've seen how f'd things get when the parents and admin start going head to head.

APA is all about the $$$. All they care about it forming teams to pay dues...hence the rule for no parents and the suggestion that parents form a separate team across the room.

I agree that the worst thing you want is kids playing with no parental instruction. However the second worst thing is to have every parent think that they should have a say.

There should be 1 parent representative per team and that is it.

The L.O. is probably trying to do a good thing by getting a Junior League going. Just didn't get it started correctly. Thats too bad.

If you have been a long time player with over 500 matches anda division rep as well, then you probably have the L.O.'s ear for suggestions. I would call the L.O. and offer some suggestions and some help it getting it running.

just my opinion.

one stroke...You don't say where you are located, but that league operator who told your girl she'd have to pay $300+ if she quit the league, is full of baloney. Nobody can make you pay squat if you decide to quit. Sounds like a poorly run league in your area. It's not like that everywhere.

Sounds like people making their own little rules. Go over everyone's head and straight to those that actually run the whole thing.

Here we go again

Here we go again beating that dead horse...yes APA is a crap league and everything they do is crap and ALL the other leagues are SO MUCH better blah blah blah blah.....

i guess people will NEVER get it APA is a BUSINESS!! BUSINESSES are to make money and the way APA makes money is having a handicap league and when the players get better and get raised they have to split cause of the 23 rule that means teams split and form new teams and the APA MAKES MORE MONEY does everyone see that? everyone get it now?? its all done this way cause APA is a BUSINESS!! EVERYONE SAY IT WITH ME ALL TOGETHER NOW....ITS A BUSINESS...so with that said the lady who wanted to start an adult and child league was TRYING TO MAKE MORE MONEY why is that so hard to understand? how about your job do you want me to trash you cause you want to make more money at your job? ok then IF YOU DONT LIKE IT DONT PLAY IT!!

I'm guessing this may have something to do with why many AZBer's dislike the APA (hate is such a strong word). Folks spend hard-earned money to play and get customer service equal to this comment.

I agree with you Trob , I'm sitting this session out , One thing I can't stand my area is how many bangers there are , they don't want to get better they just want to bang stuff around . The way I play is I like to run patterns , if theres a safe I'll play it but I will refuse to bang balls around and get lucky thats not me , I've play so many people that by the end of the match I want to rip my hair out .

Short story .... I played this girl that was supposed to me 3 but played like a 6 and I got my ass smoked and I was pissed at the end but I never like to show it in public , the way some teams play is dirty also I had to play a 2 once and I'm a 6 well lets just say that she only got 3 shots and by the time the match was over she only made 3 balls and I had my 46 or whatever I needed and the only thing she said to me is " I should have let her get some balls is " No way in hell would that have happend .

Well if I can deteer players from playing so they do have to learn the hard way as I have let that be my reward , buissness or not thats not how u treat people and if thats how u do it then obviously u dont care what people think, and any body who believes kids teaching kids is better than adults teaching has no buisness in a conversation with me in the first place
because they lack IQ

Glad we cleared that up

I've been wondering when APA is gonna start a senior citizens league (unless they already have)? Think of all that Social Security money out there up for grabs. :D

Maybe they can except food stamps and bring pool to the needy:smile:

I completely agree with those here who say if you get terrible service take your money somewhere else. I don't put up with it as a consumer. If I feel I've been mistreated, I first seek a resolution, then if there is no resolution I move on. There's a Taco Bell I won't go to because they wouldn't give me the extra hot sauce I asked for in the drive thru. I parked, walked inside and grabbed a handful (it's free), the guy gave me attitude, his manager gave me attitude, I asked for and got a refund and have never been back.

A bad APA operator hurts my reputation. I don't want them any more than anyone else. Though I won't make a judgement in this instance (only getting one side of the story), I would say if you have a bad operator the only ways to resolve it are 1) contact the National office, and 2) quit playing. Enough people quit, the National office will notice, and the operator will be dealt with.

I have just a couple of comments on the OP's post. First, I think the best way to involve adults with juniors is have one adult PER TABLE, coaching both teams. It's hard to be overly competitive when you're on both sides.

Second, concerning owing money for dropping out. There is a paragraph on that in the General Rules section of the Team Manual. It doesn't say you have to pay if you quit. It says you have to pay if you want to come back. When one of my teams drops out after the fourth week (and it does cause havoc with the schedule and trying to keep everything fair), I record in each player's record the amount that player will have to pay to return, as well as a pointer to the captain, who (by my bylaws) cannot return until the entire amount is paid. The captain doesn't have to pay the entire amount, but cannot come back until the shares for the other players are paid.

Yeah, I know what's next. "Greedy bastards, making money for doing nothing, yada yada". Not exactly. When I collect, the money all goes into my Players Fund, so I don't keep a dime of it. Had the team stayed in the league, I would have kept half of it. Don't call me greedy just because I collect, because you don't know who actually benefits from that money. In my area, it's the players and teams whose league was disrupted by people who couldn't keep a commitment.

well when u are told to keep ur team in and they will help find the players that does not happen and to boot they bring a new team in and let them play with stars next to their names their is a problem

I dont agree with one coach per table because the adults can be more competitive than the kids, maybe if the adults were not from the 2 teams playing would be good in that place no vested interest other than coaching the kids

yes we all know u can quit and not pay and never come back

At what point do u become a valued customer apparently 500 not enough
since the league operator has built one of the largest franchises its highly unlikely the main office will do anything other than take care of their own
nothing new there
