Local pool hall asked me to run league and tourneys. Little help & Questions

The Junior program is a great idea. I have seen one run very successfuly. Everyother weekend on a Sunday afternoon @ 1:00 45 minutes of lessons followed by a round robin scotch doubles tournament (parents and kids). After a few weeks when the kids get familiar with the others who are there...

Local pool hall asked me to run league and tourneys. Little help & Questions

Just some thoughts from a longtime league player. For leagues to draw in new players, and thus new business, a handicap league is the best way to go. Having played in the BCAPL style league for a number of years I found that the same team won year session after session (mainly my team) and...

    Vegas Question??

I would look now and see what you can get. Then watch it daily for the next month or so and if you see it drop a bit, then book it. You can sometimes save by waiting until the last minute but not always. I usually book 1-2 months out.

    The U.S. Pro Pool Tour

Jay, just curious as to whether you think that you can generate 2 million in revenue in the first year in order to sustain the tour or would it be 2 million in startup funding, plus more in year 2 to keep it going. I would love to see this happen. I just think the 2 million is going to keep it...

How to Fiorm a Mens Pro Tour - Would this work ?

Jay, I would love to. But unfortuneatley with a full time job and 2 kids under 7 it is just not feasable. I am a marketing guy with a ton of ideas who loves the game and would love to see it flourish at the pro level. My original, post was to see whether people think that this type of...

How to Fiorm a Mens Pro Tour - Would this work ?

While I agree with that as a startup measure, at what point do the players have to put something back in. If it was the APA or BCAPL that threw in 250,000 to get it going, do each of the top 64 pro's have to do exhibitions. The main argument about my original post is that the pros have no...

How to Fiorm a Mens Pro Tour - Would this work ?

My thoughts on how to get a pro tour off the ground First, we have to recognize that the funding for the tour in its early years needs to come from the players – both the pro’s and those who think they could be. We need to utilize the existing pool halls and use them to generate added money...

    Half-million-dollar Beat Down

The difference between poker and pool is simply one word - luck. An amatuer that plays reasoanbly well can complete with a pro in poker because of the luck factor. The pro will win more often becuase of his ability, but the amateur can still win. Thus the reason why you get 7,000 players...

    Pool Related Christmas Wish List

Here is my pool related Christmas wish 1) Have the APA and BCAPL work together to grow the amateur game iin both the handicapped (APA) and non handicapped (BCAPL) formats. This would lie more with the APA as I am quite sure Mark Griffin would be on board 2) Have the 2 leagues set up a 3rd...

Help rebuild pool - invite a non-playing friend to play

Justadub, I must live in the same part of the world as you. In our league, the places where we play all have signs posted about no outside food and drink and our L.O. goes one step further reminding us at all meetings to support the venues that support the leagues. If we ever did have a...

Help rebuild pool - invite a non-playing friend to play

That is a great idea. I think that bringing new players into the game is the way for the sport to conitinue to grow. I believe that many of the league systems have been doing that for years but for some reason people are more focused on the system and not the long term benefit of the game. We...

    "Sevenkiller"....is this a deserved nickname???

Manaic, I am s skill level 8 and have been for a few years. Based on the caliber of other 7's and 8's in my league, I would guess I am on the strong side of an 8 and close to a 9. I average about 2 B and R's a match if I am playing well. We play on 9-foot tables. I find that I win between...

    Bar table leagues suck

You are right on here. Where I play, after league ends you can find 7 or 8 of the top end players that hang around and play sets for $50 or $100. Those are also the guys that either don't have full time jobs and don't have a wife and kids. Leagueguy

    Toys 4 Tots Tournament Help

Just a suggestion but try to talk to the League Operators in the area and tell them what you are doing. Not only will they probably verify handicaps for you but they may also offer to help you run it or maybe donate money themselves to the cause. They might also advertise it for you. In our...

    One Dollar

I thought I would throw my 2 cents in on this discussion. As a business person, sports fan and pool fanatic I would love to see a pro tour get off the ground the right way. You need to start small in order top get this off the ground. Any long time sports fan will recall that 30-40 years...

    Shy but wants to play

Another AZ Billiards success story. The vocal minority on this site managed to take a person who knew nothing about league play and totaly convince her that one of the leagues is complete crap instead of encouraging her to try them all and choose for herself. I wonder where many of us would...
