Are There Any New CNC Controllers Out There?

Hey Guys, There used to be some discussion of CNC here, but it has faded lately. I've got a 2-axis DIY taper shaper that I made. The computer is Windows 7 32-bit, running Mach3 driving a Gecko G540 from the parallel port. It works fine, but updates to Windows 7 are getting few and far...

    Feedback in grip hand

It looks to me like the cue on the right has a stainless steel joint collar. If that is true, there's a ~1oz chunk of metal in the middle of the cue that does not enhance the transmission of vibration down the cue. If not, then never mind, My 2 cents, Gary

    McDermott Quick Release Removal

Hey Guys, A friend has a McDermott with a quick release SS collar/pin assembly that is slightly loose. It will turn approximately 5-10 degrees with a "click" at each end of the twist. I can't get it to turn any further by hand. With a shaft attached, when it unscrews that little bit, it...

    CNC What are your recomendations

JC, Thanks, I hadn't seen that one before. For a giggle, go to http://www.drcarom.com and select "Translate Page" on your browser. Some of the translations come out pretty funny. Gary

    Taper of the butt portion?

Hey Kelly, I was trying to remember the name of a curve a rope makes when you hang it from two ends - catenary! Thanks for that. I guess I should add that when I use the term parabolic curve, I'm not referring to any curved profile on a shaft, but one that was intentionally shaped to the...

    Taper of the butt portion?

Shakes, Any Engineering curriculum is pretty tough, so good luck at that. And, while I learned all the theory behind math, you engineers are more familiar with the applied use of it. Yes, we are in agreement on this subject. Gary

    Taper of the butt portion?

Wow, I go away for a day and look what has happened! First of all, Todd, I hope you didn't take my post as criticism, it certainly wasn't meant to be. What I was hoping for was the discussion that resulted. As to Mr. Shakes, there are several of us here who have backgrounds in math and science...

    Taper of the butt portion?

Hi Todd, I just wanted to understand your statement "First by definition there is no such thing as a parabolic taper." a little better. Since there is a definition of a parabola, then there can indeed be a taper that follows part of a parabolic curve. Now, it has been stated here before that a...

    Precision Tips???

Or you can use www.precisiontip.com FWIW I tried a Soft on my regular shooter. It just wasn't right for me, so I went back to a UltraSkin Pro. I think they are reasonably priced and you can't fault the designer as he has impeccable credentials. YMMV Gary

Chris has them on his site as well - a different style, but longer. https://www.cuesmith.com/carbide-thread-milling-internal-bit-1-8-shank.html Unfortunately both the internal and external are out of stock, but that might be short lived. My 2 cents, Gary

    birdseye maple shaft?

Hi Ernie, I've made a few BEM shafts. They attract a lot of attention in the pool hall! They hit well. The only problem I've come across is in finishing. The eyes are harder than the surrounding wood, so getting a smooth finish takes some work. Good to see you on here again!! Gary
