    Bergman vs DeChaine

The final score in the famous Reyes-Strickland Color of Money match was 120 - 117. Speaking of which, you can watch the last two racks here: http://getbetteratpool.com/uncategorized/efren-reyes-winning-moment-in-the-color-of-money/. It could easily have been closer (or reversed). Earl had...

US Open Qualifier At Teachers Billiards, St Peters MO

It would be easy to just pay out the cash in that event. Speaking of which, depending on the winner, I'd be sure to give $1k to the US Open and $600 to the player, just to make sure the winner of the feeder tournament actually goes to the Open.

    WWYD: Push out to where?

That was my thought, too. But I think I actually like 2strong's idea of thinning the 1 and taking the cue behind the 6 even more.

    WWYD 9-ball...

I like this. Depending on who I'm playing, I might call a push and make the 1, expecting to get the shot back and then playing a slight variant of the safety you diagrammed.

    14'6".....enough room?

OP could just remove the drywall at the appropriate height. Make a nice inset drink shelf about 12" high running the length of the table. Sure, you'll still have studs, but instead of 104" of short stroke spaces, you'll only have about 13", assuming studs are spaced at 16" and there are no...

    APA Rating Question

The point of the phrase "table run" is that the opponent didn't even get a chance to win, beyond possibly the break shot. Anything else is just making 8 balls in a row.

Advice for gambling with someone you don't know...

You shot a lot of pool and it didn't cost you anything. Not so bad, really. I like to think I can tell a fair bit about a player's speed by their stroke. I also watch for changes in stroke, shot choices, and cue placement when I get ahead in a race.

    Trouble deciding on B/J Tip

Seriously, a much more mature group here at AZB than I would have thought. A guy posts asking for a "B/J Tip" and all he gets is advice for the tip on just break-jump cue?

    Boston Pool Rooms

Freedom includes the right to set a dress code in a place that you own. It's the owner's property, not yours. If an owner thinks no tank tops is a good policy for business (maybe trying to get an after work crowd?), then get a shirt or go elsewhere.

    Made it to a 7

It's time to start playing one pocket! I mean in addition to continuing to play regular league. First, it's fun. Second, it will open up some new patterns and safeties for you, and I bet many or most of the 7s you rank as ahead of you for now play it a lot. Some will say the bunting in 1P is...

    U.S Open:Hows The Entries Going?

Good idea. I've always wondered why you don't see this type of thing in more cities. Just like feeder tournaments into the WSOP. I guess that with pool, people would rather play for a $2k cash prize than a trip to the US Open.

Played straight pool for the first time last night. high run 23! LOL

I'm with you. Playing 4+ days a week with strong players and a bit of a knack is plenty to get up to strong B speed. He starts with a dead break shot, so the first 15 points are not all that hard. Then he makes firm enough contact with the next rack to run 9 balls (counting the break ball)...

    $1200.00 for a SHAFT?!?!?!?!?!?

Here's a somewhat off topic question. I picked up a Searing shaft last years. In general, I like the feel, but at close to 13mm, it's too thick for my taste. Now I'm stuck. Is it crazy to have someone that is not Dennis take it down to 12.5? If it's not crazy, then who would you use for this?

    Lol, nice move Scott

Ok, on this critique of Scott, I will concede!

    Lol, nice move Scott

The 1 and the 5 go on the corners for purposes of contrast with adjacent balls. Same reason some people don't like certain combinations of balls at the front of a one pocket rack (e.g., 6 in the front and 8 second). Contrast is irrelevant to an isolated ball on a spot shot.

    Lol, nice move Scott

I call BS. The 8-ball isn't harder for me to aim on, so I *really* doubt it's hard for Alex to aim on. Also, Scott pulled a ball and spotted it without looking down.

    Lol, nice move Scott

As best I can tell, OP is pointing out that at 25:30, Scott made the 12 uptable but spotted the 8, not the 12. His implication is that Scott spotted one of Alex's balls. However, it's clear from the subsequent play that they both knew full well that Alex needed 1 ball and it didn't matter what...
