    Black Pheonolic Blues ...

Purchased some double black phenolic rod a few months back from a very popular supplier and am having a problem with it. I sand down to get rid of the pin holes but new ones appear. I fill them in with sanding sealer but every time I sand new ones will appear and fill with a white dust that is...

    1st threaded ferrule

If you are measuring static points then there is not much advantage for the analog over the digital indicator. The digital will have a higher resolution than the analog. When the part is moving you can see the direction and amount on an analog indicator. You only see flickering digits on a digital.

    Tapered reamer for coring?

Chris, I have built perhaps 10 cored forearms so I am no expert by any means ... however ... I have had no problems (that I am aware of) using Tightbond glue or epoxy to glue in the core. it is very messy but the efort to get glue all up and down the core is critical. Never used the foaming glue...

    Tapered reamer for coring?

I guess my question about all this is ... will a tapered core cue really matter to the player? Given a standard cored cue and an a tapered core cue will the player feel anything different. That is a lot of money and effort for what real final result? Its just my opinion ... but I doubt any...

    11.75 vs. 11.8

Their is a measurable difference. I doubt you could feel the difference and if all other factors were equal then the shafts would play the same. I think the difference in size is a result of either the blank shafts as they are supplied or the process Predator uses to complete them. I dont think...

    CNC software ...

Using BobCad 20 and Mach 3 is great for designing and running inlay programs. But its a bit time consuming to do someones name or initals into a cue just one time. Anyone recommend a software program that is designed for quick and easy engraving projects?

New bearings for my Porper Q-Lathe ... advice needed ...

Oh ... I see ... 😬 Michael, getting old has its downside. Two things I noticed about the mid 70's ... memory is not as sharp as it was and I cant remember the other one. Thanks for the post and the information ... printed it out and will post it on the wall near the lathe. Never did get the...

New bearings for my Porper Q-Lathe ... advice needed ...

Anyone replaced the main bearings on their Porper Q-Lathe? Would you share the model of bearings you used and the process of replacing them? I think I need to replace mine as there is a bit of play in them. Would prefer to upgrade from the ones in there now. Dont know how hard of a job it is...

    New handle discussion

YES ... Replacing the handle of a pool cue so that you can not tell it was ever worked on is a very challenging task. I have done a few for friends as a personal challenge and learning experience. It requires a high level of accuracy to get the cue fit back together with a minimum of material...

    Cue Finish ...

I have been using a spray on water based poly finish on my pool cues with good results. Am always looking for something better. Dont like the health dangers of automotive clear coat and have problems with fisheye. Tried epoxy but found it hard to apply evenly and polish out. Super Glue works but...

Cue vibrates like a tuning fork.

Anyone know the reason for the dot on Bob Meucci's cues? Something to do with spline as I recall.

Cue vibrates like a tuning fork.

All cues have a natural resonance frequency. It is related to mass. If it bothers you it is all in your head. The cue ball is long gone when the cue starts to vibrate from a shot. Try your hand slap with just the butt of the cue (no shaft) and you will hear its tone quite clearly.

    The three foul rule ...

You break and then it happens ... the cue ball finds a pocket. The other player gets ball in hand and you are on foul one. He sets up a light tap shot that buries the object ball in three others. The cue ball rolls to a spot that is impossible to even hit the object ball. So what now ... do you...

    Segmented trim rings?

Most all cue makers learn how to make custom segmented rings soon after undertaking the craft. You really dont need a CNC lathe or mill to do these. Chris Hightowers Cue lathes have a router attachment that does this job. Unique Products Taper-Shaper machine does a great job making these also...

    What joint thread is this?

Some manufactures have the parts made for them and they are just not available to the public. It is great to buy a cue for under $200 cause if it breaks you just buy another. The quality of import cues have greatly improved in the last 10 years to the point custom cue makers can not compete...

Ferrule Idea - Is it new?

Since deflection is dependent on Mass it would make more sense to get rid of all the wood at the tip ... Think Carbon fiber Shaft. If there is a material with less mass than Carbon Fiber that can hold up to the cue impact then that material would be better and should exibit less deflection. So...
