Opinions regarding a former top pro playing in and dominating a Poolroom‘s weekly handicapped tournament?

As far as I know, the room owner/TD at this room does not go by Fargo for his rankings, which is quite challenging considering now that this player and occasionally a few other pretty good players are in the field, he now has 9 different rankings. In my opinion, that just gets way too...

Opinions regarding a former top pro playing in and dominating a Poolroom‘s weekly handicapped tournament?

Yes, the facts I stated here are indeed true. I kind of agree that the positives of him playing in it should trump the negatives, at least for the players who truly want to improve, but I can’t say for sure how I would handle it unless it was occurring in our room. It’s kind of like a...

Opinions regarding a former top pro playing in and dominating a Poolroom‘s weekly handicapped tournament?

Likely the best advice, along with offering him the option to make some $ by making himself available for private lessons to your interested customers, $80-$100 per hour.

Opinions regarding a former top pro playing in and dominating a Poolroom‘s weekly handicapped tournament?

I don’t know enough about Fargo ratings, but I would guess this player would be in the low to mid 700s, agree that his handicap needs to be made to whereby a significantly lower skilled player can win the match with just one game, rather than having to win two games.

    Are Jump Cues Worth It

Sounds to me like you have no need for a jump cue, if you’re playing largely recreationally against other recreational players, and you don’t play in tournaments.

Opinions regarding a former top pro playing in and dominating a Poolroom‘s weekly handicapped tournament?

A top pro pool player back in his prime (+\- 30 years ago) is now frequently playing in a weekly handicapped 9-ball tournament that attracts 30–40 players, with a considerable $ Calcutta pot. Even though the game handicaps he has to give up are often extreme, as much as 2/10, he seems to win...

Old Dogs New Tricks aka Cue Ball vs Object Ball - Mosconi Team Members Answers

This is what I’ve been doing of late and it’s working well. Yes, it’s very hard to trust it when there is considerable distance between CB and OB. Seeing Shaw’s video has given me renewed confidence to stick with this.

Experiments in looking at the cueball while delivering the stroke.

I had a 14.1 lesson from Ray about 8 years ago - what an eye opener compared to the modern 14.1 pro players who smash in to the rack every at every opportunity.

Experiments in looking at the cueball while delivering the stroke.

I have to admit I’ve never been a Jayson Shaw fan although his overall game and shotmaking is among the very best. I know it’s not for most, but now knowing that Jayson advocates looking at the cue ball last and this is now something I’m trying to incorporate after looking at the object ball...

Experiments in looking at the cueball while delivering the stroke.

I agree with you, but I have gone to looking at the cue ball last throughout the stroke, and it seems to be working, after having never done it for 50+ years of looking at the object ball last.. You have to have full confidence in your line and in your alignment, and you still have to stroke...

Total Knee Replacement Surgery- How Long Until One Can Start Back Playing?

I’ve been through total shoulder replacements on both shoulders, the first one (right) 38 years ago with numerous revisions over the next 10 years before I finally quit playing golf. I had the left shoulder replaced 8 years ago, so I know the importance of the rehab. With my shoulders, I’m...

    Lockers

Most serious players in our poolroom that have anywhere from $1k - $3k invested inside their pool cases prefer to keep them with them, as would I. The ones that utilize our lockers are the less serious players that have less $ invested in their equipment.

Total Knee Replacement Surgery- How Long Until One Can Start Back Playing?

I’m having right knee replacement surgery in 1 week, and I’m a right handed pool player. Anyone in relatively good physical shape in their 60s have experience having been through this or know a pool player that has? How long until one can start hitting balls, and how long until one is able to...

Best Pool Game for Seniors - 1 Pocket or 14.1?

The positive is you don’t have to get up and down as often. If you can occasionally run 20-30 yourself, you can demoralize your opponent.

Best Pool Game for Seniors - 1 Pocket or 14.1?

I went through that the last few years as well where I didn’t play it at all, but I’m now back to playing/practicing it and I love it. Even though I can’t run 3–4 racks anymore, it’s still enjoyable.

Best Pool Game for Seniors - 1 Pocket or 14.1?

I assume you are referring to 14.1? We have some younger 9-ball players in here that have recently been introduced to it and absolutely love it.

Best Pool Game for Seniors - 1 Pocket or 14.1?

I’m facing the realization that rotation games such as 9 ball have become just too challenging and frustrating for us senior players, including those of us who played these games quite well in our younger years. I’m wondering if other senior players agree, particularly as it relates to matching...
