    questions about 9ft tables

The thing with GC's is they typically are older, so they've typically had more move/recovers/etc performed on them. Unfortunately, a lot of them have hardware problems that may not have been addressed in the past. You can find them in great condition if they've been well taken care of, but it...

Agreed. The prices are actually REALLY good for the quality product.

Getting listed in the Mechanics Directory

I still go back to the comparison to work of mouth advertising. Again, I think WOM is HUGE in this industry. All being listed in the phone book proves is that you can afford a phone book ad. Your customers telling other people you do great work means so much more. Most WOM conversations go...

Getting listed in the Mechanics Directory

I've got to say that (in my case anyway, not trying to speak for everyone) there's no staging necessary. I see shitty work, I snap a picture. I fix work, I snap a picture. Done. I can show any customer that comes across my site what my work looks like compared to someone else's work. I can...

    Replacing rails on a Valley

I have used both brands of rails. Both make a good product. I do like some of the features of the Ridgebacks, like the ... wait for it... ridge in the back and the hardware they use. I do think I prefer the play of the Ridgebacks a bit too, although that's just personal preference. Again...

    New table information

My advice, let the mechanic also move the table. If they are decent, they should be insured just in case something would happen while transporting the table. You're going to pay them to install/level it anyway. It shouldn't be that much more for them to tear-down and move it as well. Cheaper...

    New table information

Sorry, Boyersj, I thought Jack was closer to you. When the time comes, if you're unable to find someone closer, let me know. We're in Dayton, Ohio, but we do travel fairly often. Good luck in your table search!

Getting listed in the Mechanics Directory

Thanks for the shout, Rick! :) I think for clarification (we're back to this again!), it's a MECHANIC'S directory, not a sales or installation directory. To be a mechanic, you have to be able to work on tables and do work out of the ordinary. To prove you are a mechanic to be listed in the...

    New table information

Get something you're happy with. I know that sounds simple, but if you want a Diamond, hold out for a Diamond. Olhausen does make a nice table too in my opinion for a lower price in general. For moving the table, try Jack (JZMechanix). He's in southern Indiana and does great work. He can...

    Installing Worsted Wool Cloth

I do as well. I was debating on saying something because I don't know how to without sounding like a smartass, but the "trick" is to do the job right. Trust me, the DVD's are WELL worth the investment.

    Installing Worsted Wool Cloth

What's you're saying is, in theory, if you expose the cloth to humidity/moisture while installing it, it will be tighter when dry. I've had the same discussion with a local vendor. They were called out to fix the cloth in a local bar before a tournament. They own and maintain all of their...

    Installing Worsted Wool Cloth

You are the reason the DVDs were made. LOL Seriously, get them. It will show you (and your installers) the RIGHT way to install Simonis, Accu-guard, and everything else. I don't care how good you think your installers are, the DVDs will make them better.

    Installing Worsted Wool Cloth

I'm one of those that will forcefully (but respectfully disagree). You do not want (or need) to mist, moisten, dampen, or in any other way wet the cloth to install it tight. The stretch pattern ABSOLUTELY does matter if you want it installed evenly and properly with your pockets cut in...

Jay's got it. The DVDs have a lot of great information on how to cover slate and rails RIGHT with worsted cloth.

    My Visit from Cuephoric

I thought so. But hey, if it works. LOL I've always loved the legs on that table.

What kind of table is this? How do I care for it?

Looking closer at the pictures, there is actually supposed to be a length-wise piece that spans the leg stretchers. It's the same as what spans across the legs at the ends of the tables, but it goes from the middle of those lengthwise.

precision mechanic needed in NE ohio

Have you expressed your concerns to the dealer that sold you the table? I'd love to send you a quote for me to come up and fix it...and I still can if you'd like, but it seems like they should be responsible for a quality installation. I would contact them first and see what, if anything, they...
