Very good point, and I agree. I had about three years of married life before my son entered the picture...My pool game never suffered until he came along, and became way more important than knocking balls around. I used to play seven nights a week for 6+ hours, now I might practice twice a week...

Most what? Are you saying that most good players have families to worry about, and yet still play top-level pool? I want to believe you; please provide me with some examples.

I've been wondering how many good players out there are able to balance between practice, action, tournaments, and still having time to spend with their wives and kids? Do these guys exist? Or are all the good players besides Johnny Archer (who is the only family man/pro that I can think of)...

This thread has finally gotten good in the last ten posts or so. :) I used to play pool with an older guy who said that he hadn't had a drink of water in 25 years...His reason was that he didn't like the way it tasted. Maybe if he would shell out a buck for some crisp, clean Ozarka, he might...

You could have easily landed in the same spot by using too little draw. (hitting the long rail before the side) It's just too touchy to really have any real confidence. Going two rails off the 5 ball is much more predictable if you know how to hit the rail target on the second rail.

I had the pleasure of watching the great Norman Hitchcock (RIP) play in his later years, and I learned a lot from him about defensive play. He still managed to embarrass all the straight shooting young guys by having better moving skills and a ridiculous amount of patience. I once saw him play...

I've seen Corey Deuel practice this way before. He always splits the second and third balls in the rack, and leaves the cue ball near the side pocket on the same side he breaks from. He's not blasting all the balls open, but he gives himself more options. I think you're making this drill too...

I agree, and I'm reminded of the quote from one of the old-time players, (maybe George Fels?) who said, "My quality of life is directly related the quality of pool that I'm playing".
