    8 ball vs 9 ball

Clusters and messy tables are the equalizer (heh) for me when playing stronger players, at least in our league. In 8-ball, when I play the guys that are much better shooters than me (but not up the level of the top shooters, this doesn't bother those guys), they struggle when the table is a...

    New player, cue advice needed

If he has the means to throw $1k at his first cue, as a beginner, well that's cool. I am of the opinion that is a lot of money to put into something that you aren't even sure of yet. I would think getting something nice for a few hundred bucks till he plays enough to know more of what he wants...

    8 ball vs 9 ball

I'm a mediocre league player. I enjoy both games, but I prefer 8-ball to 9-ball. I also think I'm better at 8-ball, or perhaps more accurately, I'm worse at 9-ball :) In 9-ball, if you get on the wrong side of the next ball, you're in trouble. I have more recovery options in 8-ball...

    IT JUST AINT THE SAME....

I've read so many horror stories about buying and selling thru eBay and marketplace and such, especially involving PayPal, that I just refuse to get involved in any of that. Anything, not just pool related. Not that I'd be big into collectable cues, but even years ago when I thought I might...

Cue Lift Technique … Is It Legal?

I was told by my APA LO that the lift shot is legal, as well. He wasn't thrilled to have to say it, I could tell, but that's the way it is. The only other APA centric goofy shot that I can think of right now is that if two balls are actually married to one another, you can hit right through...

    Concession of Game

There are a couple of people in our APA league that will start to get the rack off the wall, and it drives me nuts. I never keep it together enough to stop my stroke and ask them if they are conceding, tho afterwards I always insist that I will "next time". ;) Occasionally I notice people...

    APA/Fargo cut off?

It is interesting to me to hear people say that "everyone in Vegas is sandbagging". My own anecdotal experience from the one trip I went, with 6 or 7 team matches, I saw one player that I felt probably should be one level higher than what they were at. A few others that would be bubble...

When playing/practicing with a lower skilled player - Do you change your strategy?

For me to be appreciably better than someone, they have to be a beginner. So I don't usually go full bore (safeties, especially) unless they're woofing at me, or we've been doing this a while. I might try some more questionable shots than I would otherwise, which is a learning experience for...

how are ya'll doing in league ?

My spring futility tour continues, after a week off from both 8 and 9 ball teams. I went down 3-0 and managed to get the next two, before selling out on an attempted safety. Not as bad as I've been playing, I suppose...looking for the silver lining. Hopefully I've identified some mechanical...

Having a second/backup playing cue butt

I have a 4x4 case. I take my player, and my break cue. Then I have a spare cue that I carry as a "just in case". I have the space in the bag, it doesn't make it that much heavier. And if I think enough ahead and I'm going to a room where I know there won't be many bridges around, I'll throw...

    APA/Fargo cut off?

I watched the last few racks and Halpin could have taken it. He had an opportunity when Abood scratched on the break, and Halpin only needed about 12 or 13. I bet he's kicking himself today. In other words, it was pretty close. Closer than you would expect between players with that big a...

    Goodbye APA, it's been fun...

The only money APA is "taking" is from the beginner level people that aren't playing anywhere else. Why would anyone think that money would end up in "pro pool" if there weren't an APA around? Complain about bangers and housewives playing pool, and then complain that their money isn't going to...

how are ya'll doing in league ?

Some people perform better under pressure than others. Your "coin flip" players might very well be close in skill level, and maybe even in matches, during regular sessions, but playoffs are a different atmosphere entirely
