    joint face this is an interesting point,some cue makers will slightly countersink, my guess is to allow for swelling in the end grain, which can create an off alignment of the shaft and butt.sealing the end grain with something such as a thin c.a.,and facing off is what i do to prevent the end...

    Tight Pin

    tight pin a little dish soap lightly with a q-tip in hole,lightly heat pin,15 or 20 sec. with bic lighter tighten and let it stand for a minute.this will almost mold wood threads to a pin.you may have to heat more or less depending on just how tight it is.

    Coring Issue....

    coring Are you air cooling it,if not the drill bit will heat and swell, causing a binding that could cause the drill to walk off center.the drill air also keeps wood chips cleared.

    Splitting 314 shaft

    split shaft it is possible to glue it back together,i would consider adding a small ring for added strength.getting this done soon after the damage will be best,waiting will allow dirt and chalk to get in the crack and make it much more noticable when fixed.

    pin replacement most any cuemaker can do this.hardest part is getting the old pin out.if you have a shaft that you are matching to it,i would send it with it.

    tapping ferrules not sure what type lathe you are using,but the type chuck and jaws make a difference.when i was doing it with a hightower i had the same issues,now i do them on a porper b,and i have no issues.
