    Snapped Schon

A friend of mine snapped his Schon right below the joint. It broke off about 2 inches below the joint. Is it possible to repair this, and if so, will the cue play well afterwards? What kind of repair would be done? Splice in a new piece of wood, then install a new joint? If this can be done...

    Joint question

Thanks, Paul. Guess I'll go the retaper route first, and also take care not to over tighten the other shafts as mentioned below by Bandido. BTW Paul, your website is excellent. What fantastic looking cues you make; I bet they hit great too. Flex

    Joint question

Thanks, Paul. I should have been clearer in my original post. I'm not happy with the original shaft and the way it plays, it squirts the cue ball too much for me. I suppose that I might retaper the shaft down to about 11 mm, and cut the ferrule down so it's about 1/2 long, and try that first...

    Joint question

I have a cue with a piloted 5/16X18 stainless steel joint, as in this picture: What I've noticed is that when I've screwed on any number of regular 5/16 X 18 flat-faced shafts onto it that the hit is a bit weird, and quite different from the shaft made for the cue. Is there a way to fix...

How much would you pay for lessons?

You don't need to spend over a grand to find out about your game. Just go to Chris's Billiards in Chicago and match up with any number of players there, and if you beat those in the top 10 or so, you won't need a lesson from Scott. Who are in the top 10? Good question. Just go in on a Sunday...

    Balabushka look alikes?

Can someone suggest a relatively inexpensive Balabushka-like cue? I like the looks of his cues and am interested in finding something that looks similar. Thanks, Flex

    Best New Pool Invention

There's another possibility, too. Just cut off the ferrule on a stiff shaft and install a phenolic or White Diamond tip on there directly. Works fine for me, and never had a shaft splinter or break, as some told me would happen. Who knows, perhaps I've just been lucky.

    Best New Pool Invention

There's another cheap way to do it as well: 40 or 60 grit automotive sanding discs. I used to use those, as they work great, but the Sandman has a lifetime guarantee and is carbide... supposedly they'll will never wear out.

    Elbow drop

What do you have against pool players learning new techniques here? As for the pros and shortstops you ask about, I know a few who don't like this forum, as apparently it sometimes kills their action. Then there's the issue of obtaining good information without paying for it. There's plenty...

    Was George Balabushka any good?

Sorry for the somewhat off-topic post, but George's cue designs are still very appealing. From the previous posts, it sounds like his cues were full-splice ones, is that correct? Can anyone recommend a relatively inexpensive Balabushka style knock-off? Thanks, Flex

Does Barry Berhman endorse barring people traveling through?

If that's the prevailing attitude at that hall, guess where I won't be going should I pass through Norfolk.

    TAR is streaming live now!!!

There is some problem with logging in to ustream, at least for TAR. Earlier today or last night I was able to log on with my username and password with no trouble. However, I'm unable to get it to work with TAR. Thinking that maybe there was some glitch, I tried to create a new registration...

    Identify Yourself

Interesting post. I wonder what Mr. Wadsworth thinks about all this. Are your concerns a lack of common courtesy, as Mr. Wadsworth might have us believe? Flex

    Identify Yourself

That last question is an interesting one. I have an AZ handle that is different from my eBay handle which is different from my real name. Am I confused by all this? Not at all. Ashamed? Of course not; why on earth should I be? Plus numerous other handles for other things. Hard to keep track...

    Identify Yourself

I believe in common courtesy, and good manners, and being respectful and respectable, too. It seems to me that your idea of common courtesy goes far beyond what many would consider normal, especially for an online forum. FWIW, some time ago, here on AZ, there were death threats made. I don't...

    Identify Yourself

With someone's name, occupation, age and state, a whole lot can be found out about them online, especially if someone is willing to pay for the information. Unlisted phone numbers can be obtained, their address, and a whole lot more is out there. No thank you.
