Thanks, Paul. I should have been clearer in my original post. I'm not happy with the original shaft and the way it plays, it squirts the cue ball too much for me. I suppose that I might retaper the shaft down to about 11 mm, and cut the ferrule down so it's about 1/2 long, and try that first...

There's another possibility, too. Just cut off the ferrule on a stiff shaft and install a phenolic or White Diamond tip on there directly. Works fine for me, and never had a shaft splinter or break, as some told me would happen. Who knows, perhaps I've just been lucky.

There's another cheap way to do it as well: 40 or 60 grit automotive sanding discs. I used to use those, as they work great, but the Sandman has a lifetime guarantee and is carbide... supposedly they'll will never wear out.

What do you have against pool players learning new techniques here? As for the pros and shortstops you ask about, I know a few who don't like this forum, as apparently it sometimes kills their action. Then there's the issue of obtaining good information without paying for it. There's plenty...
