My LEARN-TO-PLAY-POOL-IN-TEN-MINUTES Video

I've done a number of youtube videos on sometimes esoteric subjects or hard-to-understand aspects of important subjects.

But I really haven't done introductory instructional material. Of course all the introductory stuff is out there with people that are better looking than me, speak better than me, dress better than me, and know how to use a camera...

BUT, it seems to me there's been no short, free video that attempts to present succinctly the fundamentals in a single package. So here's my "pool in ten minutes" attempt.

There are some compromises to doing something like this. First there is a ton of arguably important stuff that gets neglected. Second, there are many things that can be done many ways with good success and yet for the sake of time I present only one way.

Thanks, Mike. Rep to you. Now I know where to send someone who wants to get a quick intro to the game. Very well done!

It was great and I hope hundreds of thousands will see this video and play pool properly with correct rules! It would be nice if everyone here would spread the word and if we saw someone playing "inn-style" (that's somewhat how we call it in Hungarian) would recommend them doing a search for this video on youtube.

I think a second part would be good as well for those who are taking steps forward and looking to find out more. My thoughts for this would be introducing side spin and its effects (deflection, swerve, throw), 9-ball, straight pool (maybe?) and possible recommend this forum at the end of the video or in the text next to the video. What do you think?

Nice job once again! Rep sent as well :)

Mike,

This is very well done - I like your style. Fargo will be lucky to have you running a pool room! I hope to make it up there one day.

And a very good attempt it is.

A good video for both new players as well as some of the older ones that can use some help with their game.

That was fun to watch. You did that first section in just a few sections and covered the basics.

How do you get that chalk off the table??

Well Done

Well Done. A lot of good info in a compact and understandable format.

amazing video! probably a little overwhelming for a new person but amazing exposure to many things in pool in only 10 mins!

the only thing i noticed is the forearm should be 90 degrees to the stick, not the floor, to give the largest length of least deviation in a pendulum. idealy, the stick would be parallel to the floor, which would make the forearm completely vertical, but this is not always the case, especially when you have the raise the stick up (you won't be able to follow through at all if you do vertical) just a stickler for that kind of thing, not that there is all that much of a difference to a new person. the game rules before fundamentals might've been better too.

i am going to show this to some people at my college's poolroom which is full of newbs.

That is an awesome video, definately well explained. Sometimes reading a book just doesn't do it for me. Like a naughty magazine vs. your personal adult video collection, it is always better to have the video than just the picture :o  jk Thanks

Mike,

This is a very good video. There's so much to learn about playing pool, but you did a good job showing the basics for someone who is trying to get started in pool.

Mike,

I think that is the best single instructional pool video I have ever seen posted online. Awesome job!!!

Dave

Mike...Very well done! Tried to rep you, but it wouldn't let me! LOL I really liked the way you presented this...just a couple of really small 'nitpicks'!

1)Having the rear foot directly under the cue is not necessary for all players. Having a balanced & comfortable stance, where the cue has free movement is.

2)Show maximum draw in the part of the video where you show tip position. Many players fail to understand how much easier it is to draw the CB, with little effort, when you learn "how low you can go"!

3)Chin doesn't have to be low on the cue. A more upright stance is preferable to many players (and some shots), and as long as they still use a pendulum swing, it works fine.

Thanks again, for this fine effort, which is available to anyone, anywhere, anytime!

Thanks for some good suggestions.

BTW, my wife gets to Debrecen every three or four months. If I tag along one of these times, is there any billiard place in Budapest I should visit? -- that is...if I have some free time while she's working...
