    milling question

It is hard to give you an exact answer. Alot of it depends on your setup. How fast is your spindle? How much runout? I would try at least 3 or 4 passes moving moderatly slow. Also keep the channel clear with air. By the way Glen, I have broken many endmills. It will happen. Jim.

    End Mill ?

Cheapest would be e-bay. The best would be Precise bits. What would you prefer? FYI pick up some 1/32 bits while you are at it. Jim.

    High Speed Spindle Discussion

Well Rick, even though the Kress does not make alot of noise, it still makes noise. Also the run out on the better sindles is in the microns the Kress is no where close to that. This will allow you to use smaller bits and with faster feeds and speeds. You are far less likely to break them. Now...

    High Speed Spindle Discussion

What you need JR, I agree that the Kress is great for the big stuff. You don't want to use it for the small bits. I wouldn't go under a 1/32 nd with it. I have a Kavo 50K spindle myself with an ATC. The ATC is an Automatic Tool Changer. On this spindle it simply means that when you apply 85...

As a cuemaker how would you handle this situation...

I agree with Joe here. Have the shaft matched up to the cue. You can't have your cake and eat it too as they say. If the cue maker made the joint at .850" then it would be heavier. He could take some weight out of the back but then change the balance point. If he is using a taper bar like most...

Difference btwn. a CM & Custom CM

Kj, they are comming to you because you are the expert. If they don't want to listen then I would say that you are the wrong expert for them. It is good to get input from your customers as they may come up with ideas that you have not so far. There is nothing wrong with a customer wanting...

cutting inlay pockets with tiny cutters

Bob, what do you mean? Bob, what do you mean zero offset? Do you mean that you didn't add or subtract from your tool diameter to figure out toolpath? In Bobcad 23, I set the diameter of my tool and the cam computes the tool path based on my radious of the cutter. The reason that I ask is, if...

    Tiny tools for inlays?

Hey Duc, those are hack-saw blades. I got a bunch of them. Want to trade? LOL. It does make sence as those blades are tough but flexable. If you notice on the video you can see the hole that was used in the saw. Also I noticed the teth that are still there on one edge. Jim.

cutting inlay pockets with tiny cutters

Ok Bob, I offset pocket out ccw in steps and profile at full depth with smaller cutter in cw direction. I learned this as Bill stated from Precise Bit's web site. I was at Jenson cues last year and we had issues cutting in inlays. They wouldn't fit. Now these inlays where flurs that needed a...

cutting inlay pockets with tiny cutters

Let me through this in the mix. I have used as large as .125" bits and as small as .0156" bits. I have not used anything smaller. If I where going to, I would avoid sending the smaller diameter cutter around the entire inlay. There is no need to send it crashing into anything. I would simply...

Cuemakers please post your inlay pictures

Kent, I will answer your question. NO!!!!!. Ok, think about this, if you are off .100" you may notice this on your Cad linlay if you zoom in. Maybe not? If you are off .010" you for sure will not. Now I am a lazy as they come. I work all pockets and parts off of X0 and Y0. This make drawing a...

    Motor Question

If it where me, I would just wire the old motor up direct. It sounds like you are going to replace it anyways. This motor should be an AC motor. My guess is, Chris is just switching between two wires to the motor for forward and reverse and there is a common. Just wire a plug up to the motor...

    pmcues

Not sure where you could get it repaired. Can you tell us what is wrong with it? I know that Kress does have some spare parts out there like brusses however you can't just buy them locally here in the good old USA. You should be able to get parts imported from Germany where they are made. Jim.

Looking for a .593 taig headstock

I have several of these spindles around my shop. I picked them up for around $65. I have several uses for them. My point being that there is no reason to get rid of one as they are handy. Oh and for the record these spindles are better for other projects then what the other guys are selling as...

Looking for a .593 taig headstock

Taig does sell this headstock. I don't believe they advertise it though. You can get ahold of Nick Carter at Carter tools and he will sell you one. He is the one who turned me onto them. He also gives a discount off on taig parts. Just google Carter tools and Taig. He will show up. Shoot him an...

    cnc routers

Ok Red, sound like you know what you are getting into. I believe that the K2 would do the job for you though you may have to modify it. I would make sure that you have 4th axis added to it. Also download Mach3 and start playing with it. This is the software that will run the machine. You will...

    To those who use DROs

Newall actually makes a good product that replaces glass scales. They use round balls inside an aluminum tube I believe. Dust proof. These would be my first choice: http://cgi.ebay.com/Digital-Readout-DRO-Newall-Knee-Mill-Package-3-Axis-/230445836174?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0 Jim.

    cnc routers

Red, befor you jump off the deep end! Do you have any CNC experience? The learning curve is quite steep here. Have you already made cues or are you just wanting to get the equipment and get going? I do know what machine you are asking about however I have never used it. I ended up building my...
