    Dust hood for lathe

my setup Not sure what kind of lathe you are using but here's my crude setup. It still needs refinement and isn't fancy but works fairly well. I tried fancier things but this works better so far. I like the hose moving the the carriage. If you're thinking about long term effects on your...

    cutting live threads

some options I'm no expert but I'd get this: Enco: 619-1391 or turn the router the other way and use this: McMaster.com:3073A62 or LeeValley.com:44J20.03 or LeeValley.com:16J49.01 Hopefully this helps. Scott

Anyone care to post their auto-off switch?

WillieCue, I noticed the same thing. Looks like he cuts toward the tail stock. In case of failure, is one direction better than the other? I imagine neither way would be good... Thanks, Scott

Anyone care to post their auto-off switch?

MacGuy, I wondered if thats what people were doing but I wasn't too confident I could be sure the switch would be thrown every single time. I have to admit, after seeing your pictures, it does look like you can be sure it will flip. I think your pictures have given me the confidence to get out...

Anyone care to post their auto-off switch?

closed spring arm switch Chris, I'm not quite sure what a closed spring arm switch is but I do think I'll end up using a 2-pole contactor/relay as I'm wanting to shut down a 220V metal lathe. Guess I did know what I was doing when I bought two to build a remote control for my 220V cyclone...

Anyone care to post their auto-off switch?

I did a search and didn't find any posts about it. I'm curious if anyone cares to post the switch they've created to automatically turn the lathe off once the carriage has traveled the full distance. I'm getting sick of watching the lathe cut and I'm afraid I'll forget as I'm getting bored...

    Grinding/Milling Internal/Female Threads Tooling?

micro 100 mills I assume you are talking about the TM-375. Are you using it with a bore diameter of .292 or larger and not milling more than 1.5-1.75 inches in depth? The math I've done says that you'd need the cutter head diameter ground down to do the above and the shank undercut to cut in a...

    Grinding/Milling Internal/Female Threads Tooling?

minor diameter Most of the 3/8-10 pins I've measured have a minor diameter between .234 and .240 thats why I was thinking of going with a minimum bore diameter of .250. I didn't want to go too small as I don't know how small I can go with a 2" neck and expect stability. Thanks, Scott

    Grinding/Milling Internal/Female Threads Tooling?

I haven't done this yet and need to pick up a tool for doing it. I'd like to get the tightest fit possible to the 3/8-10 pin. Here's what I've come up with. I figure this will cut in a minimum bore size of .250 and should have enough tooth to get all the thread cut. 2 inches of depth so a 3 inch...

    Tailstock offset on metal lathes?

Sears Live Center Dick, That's exactly what I was hoping for. Does Sears sell a straight shank live center or have you somehow adapted a MT center to fit the boring bar? Thanks Again, Scott

    Tailstock offset on metal lathes?

I'm fairly new to cue building and looking for a fairly cheap way to offset my tailstock. I have a 1950 something Clausing lathe and using the two bolts to do it just isn't going to be feasible. Best option I've found thus far is to use these parts: 3" Enco 22-1530 $57.95 #3 MT Enco Boring...
