    Unwritten Pool rules

Wish I had posted this. It's exactly how I feel. But you may get some grumbles from other posters.

    do it yourself tip replacement

The most important part is facing off the ferrule and the back of the tip so that both are perfectly flat. You definitely don't want an air pocket between the tip and the ferrule. I would never attempt this without an accurate lathe and sharp tooling. Trimming the edge of the tip flush with the...

    Unwritten Pool rules

If my opponent breaks their cue down or takes their glove off, I ask them if they're conceding. They're sharking by doing this and I won't let them get away with it. If they reach into a pocket to get balls out, I consider it a concession and I do not shoot my shot.

Does it EVER make sense for a pool hall to re-felt the table, but not re-level it?

Good post, If I were a table mechanic, checking the level would always be part of my price. Even if the customer says they don't want it leveled, it would reflect negatively on your work if you didn't. It's a matter of pride.

APA Skill Level vs Win Percentage

It shows that the SL3's through SL6's win approximately 50% of the time in his area which is close to ideal. I haven't played APA in a while but I'm pretty sure I can get stats for my area to compare. Might be interesting. My problem with the "Equalizer System" is that LO's have the capability...

Need help on table light selection

Friend of mine just installed 8 LED lights above his 9' Brunswick. They look great and make the Centennial balls sparkle.

Does it EVER make sense for a pool hall to re-felt the table, but not re-level it?

I know Mark Gregory checks the level on the bare slate. Then checks it again before he puts the rails on. And then again after the rails are installed. I think the short answer to the op's question is "sloppy work". I play on bar boxes in league play where the rails are installed upside down...

Why are their so many Haters, in a pool forum?

I really don't mind the trolls too much on AZB. It's entertaining to see some of the AZB regulars put them in their collective places. There are some pretty sharp folks on AZB that don't mind shining a spotlight on the trolls. Just IMO...

    Linen wraps

I prefer a wrapless cue myself. As nasty as most pool rooms are, the linen has to saturated with dirt, chalk, powder, nicotine, and bacteria. I wipe mine down pretty regularly with a damp towel. But I'm thinking about making my Predator SP my main shooter.

Sometimes I just don't get pool players

I quit gambling in pool years ago because of that crap. I never have that problem on the golf course.

Are the long straight ins really the toughest shot?

I would agree it's difficult to properly execute a long draw. But the situation I referred to is where proper position requires the cue ball to stop perfectly dead. Any movement after the hit results in no direct shot. It's a shot I practice a lot in drills. Setup the object ball about a foot...

Interesting comment today from Masters winner Bubba Watson

Nicklaus said he would never pull the trigger until he visualized the entire shot perfectly. I try to do the same thing in pool. It always amazes me to see a player fram the balls hoping something good will happen.

    Sad news about Grady Matthews.

I met Grady several years ago at The Brass Rail in Athens, GA. Great guy. Class act. Our thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

Are the long straight ins really the toughest shot?

The most difficult part of a long straight in shot is when you have to stop the cue ball dead. It's very difficult to get the right amount of speed combined with the right amount of bottom (and no side) to stop it dead. And it's a very common shot.
