    Layered Tips Review (Results)

Just sold my last 3 Snipers to another cue repair guy. Don't like 'em.

How do you know if your ferrule needs replacing soon?

I put in on my lathe and used wet 800 grit paper but it's apparently embedded pretty deep.

    Layered tip care

I use about a 2" square of 80 grit sandpaper and brush the tip very lightly every few days. I shoot with a Moori III and they last for 6-9 months or longer playing 2-3 times a week. When I used Kamui Blacks, I used the same method but brushed every few racks. Cheap solution and works well for...

    Layered Tips Review (Results)

Don't mean to hijack here but I wanted to give a thumbs up to Tom. I installed an Ultraskin a couple of days ago for one of the top players in the area. He finished high in the US Amateur last year. He's been using Kamui Blacks for a while but decided to try the Ultraskin. He texted me...

How do you know if your ferrule needs replacing soon?

I purchased an almost new Predator cue several years ago that had a small black line on the ferrule. I figured it was just a manufacturing defect. The guy I sold it to still uses it and it shoots great.

    How to identify ivory

I spoke with James White. He said the joint and ferrule were both ivory but the butt was probably not. Appreciate all of the responses.

    How to identify ivory

I had heard the UV test was a little tricky but I'm getting a nice glow on the ferrule and joint. I sent James White an e-mail but I haven't heard back. Guess I'll try calling again.

    How to identify ivory

I'm about to install a tip so I can verify the ferrule pretty easily. The joint's a little more difficult.

    How to identify ivory

Did all that but as far as I can tell, you can't see the Schreger lines except in cross section. I'm seeing what looks like grain along the length of all three pieces but some artificial materials have grain. The UV test looked good for ivory but I was hoping for another way to be sure. And...

I spoke with Paul today and he gave me James' contact info. I sent him pics. Thanks for the suggestion. Mike

    How to identify ivory

Haven't had any luck getting in touch with him. I had a number a while back but it rolled over to VM and the mailbox was full. I'm not sure if I still have the number. I would like a fairly reliable method in the future though for identifying ivory when I buy cues. Thanks!

    How to identify ivory

Is there a sure fire method to identify ivory on a cue? I have a 5 point James White cue with what looks like an ivory ferrule, ivory joint, and possibly ivory butt sleeve. Under UV light, the ferrule and joint appear to be whiter than the non-ivory ferrules I have. The butt sleeve also appears...

    Schon VS. Mezz Poll

I have both a Mezz and a Schon. I voted Mezz simply because that's my main playing cue. But I think the quality and hit are pretty much comparable. It's always been a mystery to me why Mezz doesn't get more traction in the US. They are outstanding cues.

    Predator Roadline Series

Seriously considering purchasing a Predator Roadline SP6GN wrapless Sneaky Pete with a 314-2 shaft. Any feedback out there?

What skills are needed to be a 8 ball barbox monster

Learning how the the table plays has to rank pretty high. Typical bar box has mismatched balls, dead rails, and heavy cue ball. I'm always amazed how quickly road players adjust to these inconsistencies. My game is probably twice as good on a Diamond ProAm 7' table than it is on a typical...

    New Meucci Originals

I have a couple of Meucci Originals and I like the hit. My regular player is a Mezz and my backup is a Schon. I guess I was hoping that Meucci was making a "true" original and not just a cosmetic knockoff. I am no fan of the newer Meucci's. Appreciate the feedback. Oh, well... :frown:

    New Meucci Originals

Anyone know anything about the new Meucci Originals being sold on eBay by JDB Billiards. I think the owner is a member of AZB. They come with a Black Dot shaft and are re-designs of Meucci Original cues, even the same logo. They look pretty nice but I'm concerned about QC issues. I've really...
