nope. the tip burnisher is indeed the cause of scratches on ferrules when grit gets between ferrule and sides of tip burnisher as referenced by several, me included.

after about 15 years with a Schon SR6, i had the same slippery linen problem. bite the bullet and get it rewrapped. linen will hold up for a long, long time, with not a lot of expense. sure wish it had not gotten stolen. i did try wax paper. didn't like results.
