    Straight pool rule question

Yes, under WPA rules, this shot is legal. Under BCAPL rules, it's not. Historically, it's not. In fact, more often than not, you will get into an argument prior to taking this shot. I understand the logic behind why the rule came into existence but I think creates more problems than it solves.

    Straight pool rule question

This isn't entirely accurate. There are plenty of infractions the shooter can incur behind the head-string, especially if he's doing it intentionally. If I were a referee, I would insist that the head-string is crossed. Any shot taken that had no intention of crossing the line can be viewed...

    Straight pool rule question

Yeah, there was a similar debate on azb a couple of years ago that also included Bob Jewett's input. I think this is an unfortunate reinterpretation of the headstring. In my opinion, the base of the ball should determine if it's playable or not and the debate should end there. When it's just...

Do you have this guy in your life?

Man up. It's time to stop blaming other people for your shitty play. If there's something he does that bothers you so much that you play bad, consider it a free lesson. Stop treating your game like a frail little porcelain doll that can't get exposed to anything other than perfect conditions...

    Straight pool rule question

Perhaps it's easier to look at this from another perspective. In 9ball, it's permitted, even encouraged, to force your opponent to commit three fouls in a row. In 14.1, the spirit of the rule is different. Here, it's employed to force a shooter to perform a legal shot and proceed with the...

    Straight pool rule question

Regardless how you read the rules, it's not allowed. If you're playing in a tournament, the referee will tell you no. If you're gambling, your fish will quit up. If you're playing with a friend, they'll never invite you over for dinner again. It's really simple. You have to shoot out of the...

    Not ashamed...

And, for the record, I didn't need to watch a video to know you can play. When you know how to play well, you can tell how someone else plays just by what they say.

    Not ashamed...

I agree with everything JAM said but would like to add, I often prefer Facebook when it comes to discussing anything, including pool. People tend to troll less when their accounts contain their real names. I like azb and continue to try and find opportunities to contribute but like JAM, it's...

    Carry On or Ship It

You make an excellent point about shipping. I've had plenty of packages arrive later than they should. If I ship my cues to Las Vegas and they arrive 3 or 4 days late, what difference does it make? I vote for fewer variables. Or as Mark Twain once said, "Put all your eggs in one basket AND...

    Kamui chalk

Yes, that's not to mention, it's sometimes very random what type of chalk bars do end up getting, if they have any to begin with. I don't play in bars nearly as often as I used to which is a shame since NYC now has several bars that have Diamond smart tables.

    Kamui chalk

When I play in NYC, I never have a problem but there are occasions where I'll find myself in a different city playing pool and I stumble upon a room that lacks ideal equipment. I was recently in San Diego at O Zone Billiards. Great tables but everything else was suspect. I ended-up playing a...

    Kamui chalk

I agree with everything said here. That said, there's nothing wrong with keeping a cube of chalk in your bag for those moments when chalk isn't available. I have a cube of Kamui. I haven't used it in ages but it's there in case I'm playing and no chalk is available.

    Carry On or Ship It

Any time you are not holding your cues, you're taking a risk. It doesn't matter if it's in your suitcase, you check your cue case or you ship your cues separately. The risk will always be there which is why every pool player on Earth would prefer to transport their cues via carry-on. That...

    Enough room or too tight?

I think you mean the other way around. If he had a ten pound bag for five pounds of shit, we'd have nothing to talk about.

    Enough room or too tight?

In my humble opinion, it's not worth it. Now, this is just about my opinion so you can do as you will with it. Even if the table were free, I would view this as a bad idea. The time and effort invested in getting a table has to yield a scenario that's fully functional. That said, can you...

How important is lighting to you?

I managed a poolroom in NYC during the blackout of 2003. i can tell you first hand, lighting is pretty important, especially in those basement rooms. I would venture to say, without lighting, the game would be nothing.

How Would You Play This? 8ball CSI 2014 Finals

As well, I don't think there's a single pool player on the planet that is above criticism. I started this thread because I firmly believe Appleton should have won. Was it a mistake in execution on the 11? Maybe. He could have used a little less spin, perhaps hit it a little softer. My point...

How Much Is software for Brackets

I love this app and I don't think you have to limit it to small tournaments. I've run events as big as 64 players without a problem. The only thing that would make it better is making it web-accessible. I don't like how you have to access it via iPad.
