    Ball in hand or not?

Depends on the rules you are playing under. There isn’t one set of rules. We just say ‘oops’, put it back and continue on as if it never happened.

Top 10 Reasons for Missing … and How to Prevent It

Enjoyed the video: Good video and points. I’ve done a few over the years. To add to your ‘other’. I’ll call it ‘The Paradox’. Adjusting some aspect of one’s game when fundamentals are actually fine…then creating an issue. Examples would be things like when missing a pocket by an 1/8th of an...

Poll: What do you enjoy most about reading/posting on AzBilliards?

Amongst other positives: Definitely the age demographics. It’s good that some younger people participate on this forum but I find it refreshing to read comments from posters over the age of 40. Other billiard sites on the Internet are dominated by 16 to 30 year old males and when I visit...

    2 1/8" balls

Sounds like a fun variation. We also make up a couple of variations or new games altogether. Keeps it fun. Going to give your variation a try. In regular Snooker we have a one foul rule…no repeat shots so that foul points don’t accumulate. Too easy for an experienced player to run up...

    2 1/8" balls

I can’t answer your question directly. I have a 12’ Nationsl Snooker table and a 9’ Dufferin American style pool table. ( both Canadian makes). Your table must be a gem. I play Snooker and American pool on both….and use 21/8 abd 2 1/4 inch Aramith balls on both. I can’t tell a difference...

Who is considered the greatest living cueist right now?

Ha! I’m a lefty that shoots both ways but shooting right handed it’s just to make the pot or ‘try’ to position the white. Ronnie put that white perfect on the black…couldn’t have been better if he picked it up and placed it.

Who is considered the greatest living cueist right now?

Cueist as in ‘cue action’. A lot of pro Snooker players would say Shaun Murphy. Not to be confused with best Billiard Player. Best at billiards Mark Selby Judd Trump Neil Robertson John Higgins Ronnie O'Sullivan Shaun Murphy Kyren Wilson Mark Williams Mark Allen Stuart Bingham

Top 10 Reasons to Use an Open Bridge

I learned billiards playing snooker and have never used a closed bridge. I have no reason to say it’s better or not for ‘pool’. I play pool against excellent players who use a closed bridge. It would be difficult using a closed bridge in Snooker for line of site What is ‘better’ is to stick...

how to deal with vastly different tables/felt/rails

Learn to use the quirks of a table to your advantage. Always, as in always watch the other players at the table and how balls are ‘clicking’, balls slightly veering off, balls getting hung up at pots, rails reacting, etc. You want to play the guy who is staring at his cell phone and missing...

Dreaming of and designing my own pool table

Belgium’s greatest contribution was Eddy Merckx. I’m Canadian but spent much of my teens living on the French/German border. …both in Alsace and in the Black Forest. When the Tour de France came to our region we would all sit on our 10 speeds and watch the cyclists go by…Merckx was the...

What a home room looked like in the early 60’s

I never saw one as a kid. In contrast 3 in the 8 houses on our cul de sac. Houses are getting bigger…much bigger in Canada. In the 1960s many houses were 1000 ft bungalows with an unfinished basement. Now new they are 2000 plus sq feet with all levels finished….ours 3000 sq feet.

Dreaming of and designing my own pool table

I’m enjoying this discussion. Much beyond my knowledge and capability. Good to see the drawings to give perspective. Whenever I’ve built a piece of furniture …A dresser, ‘fancy’ armoire, etc. I have taken an older one and disassembled it down to the bare bone structure. Then taken the...

Tell us about your "cue journey"

I’ve used 3 cues in the last 50 or so years. I use a snooker cue for both Snooketr and American pool. Current one a Barracuda with an all wood joint. Previous cue a Dufferin and first a ‘Lion’ an older player gave me when I was a teen. I don’t prefer one snooker cue to another as its more about...

Pause in Backstroke, Does It Help, How?

I pause only to stroke consistently. The same reason I take one breath before standing up after a shot. I’m not conscious of either as have done this for decades. I ‘think’ the pause helps, as others mention, to create a transition between backswing and forward motion. However, at the end...

EARL STRICKLAND Returns to TEAM USA

American Pool. Ha Ha Ha How about everyone also chip in to promote another movie that glorifies drunks and violence and cons in the Pool community? Folks wonder why parents don’t want their kids in the Pool Hall. Strickland is a pathetic germ of a human being. He should have been kicked out...

    Dufferin Pool Cue

An aside. Are you in Canada? Check out thrift stores. Our ones in Calgary frequently have Dufferin cues..usually sell, like all cues, for about $7 to $10. Red, green , silver, gold, black Maple leaf. One and two piece…pool and snooker.. Most of mine are red leafs but other colours pop up...

    Deflection & Ball Size

Timely question, I was at the thrift store yesterday and picked up a new set of Aramith snooker balls for $7. They are 2 1/4 inch in contrast to the regular 2 1/16 size. I’ve played Snooker for over 50 years and never seen a larger diameter sized set before. They are perfect for my needs. I...

    'Criminally good' O'Sullivan shot..................

Great accuracy with snooker pockets. One of the many shots where the principal focus is playing the white safe. However, Ronnie can now pot the black and can play for good position on the next red. An aside: always best to note the score in both the frame and the match. Many...

What do you prefer to break with? Heavy or light?

I just grab a house cue. The pool halls I play in usually have one piece Dufferins. Usually around 17 to 18 oz. I break with medium power…more consistent than when breaking harder. I rarely break at home…usually just toss the balls on the table… or have balls arrange as in games like...

    People bitching about 7’ tables

Actually you won’t find a 7 ft tables in pool halls, Legions or recreation centres in my Canadian city…nearly all 9 ft with an odd 8 ft and a couple snooker tables. 7 ft tables are in bars.
