    Brunswick snooker table

I have a 1920s 10' snooker table for sale. It is the Madison model and is located in the Portland, OR area. It has Simonis 760 cloth in good reusable condition. The rail rubbers are in great condition as are the pockets. The table was in terrible shape when I got it. I sanded, reglued, and...

    Club & Home “Pool Players”

I've been playing for 40+ years, so I'm familiar with the wide range of rule variations one encounters playing in bars. It seems to me that the older players are the ones who are the most resistant to having a discussion about the rules. Usually, when I see a couple of younger players playing...

    Club & Home “Pool Players”

At league last night, I got to sit next to the non-league table in the bar we were playing in. There were two a**hats there who were playing "straight eight". BIH in the kitchen, hit your opponents ball first, no need to hit a rail after contact, etc. There were 20 or so league players in there...

    Garage room pics requested...

Here's mine: Click on the images to see a larger view. It's 24' x 24' and insulated. I use a small window air conditioner which takes about an hour to cool it down to comfortable when it's over 90F. I use two electric heaters which take about 2 hours to heat it up to comfortable when it's...

    Phil McKee RIP

Last night at league in Camas, WA, Phil apparently had a massive heart attack and died in the bar we were playing in. Just wanted to spread the word to those posters/lurkers who may have known him in the Portland, OR & Vancouver, WA area. :( As I knew him, he was a friendly, talkative man in...

    ULTRASKINLAYERED Cue Tips

Great tip I had a soft tip put on my main playing cue. After it was shaped, I played with it for about a week and found that it had flattened out like all the tips I've ever used before, so I was a little disappointed. At first, it was so awesome because I could get lots of English on the cue...

    For JAM and Keith

Given the 714 area code, I'd have to say it's in California, southern, but not sure what city...

If you foul, but your opponent doesn't see it, should you call it on yourself?

I play in a men's fun league and have for the past 8 years or so. We play 8 ball. It is, apparently, expected that players will cheat and it is widely considered wrong to try to do anything about it. We can have one call up during play and it is against the rules for any coaching outside of...

How often do you have a bad night ?

I play pretty much every night, either at home or league. What I've noticed is that my consistency pretty much follows how well I'm able to focus on what I'm doing. Unfortunately, I played for lots of years just banging the balls around without really focusing on all the fundamentals that lead...

Question for players who use both closed and open bridge

I'm on automatic pilot. It's not really a conscious decision for me. It's more like whatever feels the most comfortable for the shot at hand. I know I should probably be more consistent, but it's way down on the list of things I need to be more consistent about, lol.

    playing pool with one hand

Practice is the best way to learn. I've used one hand in favor of the bridge for most shots since I saw someone do it many years ago. I don't recommend shooting without a bridge of some sort (rail or an artificial bridge) for long shots (big distance between cue and object balls) until you've...

    Anybody tried pine tar?

I have no clue what WW does with it, but if I were going to use it, I would just put a small amount on one face of the joint, not on the pin. My radial pin joint comes loose fairly frequently during play as well. However, I usually hear it or feel it right away when that happens.

How does the BCAPL rating work and how does it compare to APA skill levels?

I'm doing great and hope you are as well. I'm always open to playing any time and all AZBers are always welcome at my house. Send me a PM or give me a call if you still have my number.

Offical wpbl bonus ball teams and rosters

Thanks for the heads up! While perusing your rules, specifically the advanced rules, I didn't see anything that addresses the possibility of the bonus ball and/or the cue ball being in the way of the rack when doing a rerack. I would assume that the bonus ball would go back on its spot, but...

How does the BCAPL rating work and how does it compare to APA skill levels?

Across the river, the BCA league I've been playing in restricts teams to one master per team. I think I remember the same applying to an in house league at Classic in Portland a few years ago. The rest of the players are A or B players. There are no handicaps or other rankings until you go to...

    Checking a cue's straightness

I don't like rolling the cue on a table. What I do to check straightness is hold the cue by the butt and rest the tip on the table or in the air, then while sighting down the length of the cue, I turn it and watch the tip to see if it stays straight.

    Cerama Bryte for Pool balls?

I've been alternating between the Aramith polish and a bottle of metal polish for the past couple of years. I think the metal polish does a better job of removing the collision marks from the balls, but the Aramith stuff is OK, too. Like Bob indicated, getting the stuff off of the balls after...

Ronnie O'Sullivan - Age 15 - Just To Reinforce Your Feeling Of Inadequacy

The reason he banked that ball and went for the safety was because he was behind in the score. He was trying to play safe so that his opponent would miss and Ronnie would get points. In snooker, when a player fouls, points get added to his opponent's score. Believe me, his intent on that shot...

Ronnie O'Sullivan - Age 15 - Just To Reinforce Your Feeling Of Inadequacy

If you question his ability to kick, play safe, and/or spin the ball, all I can say is you haven't watched him play enough. If you think snooker doesn't require creativity, then you haven't watched enough or played the game enough. With that huge playing surface, I've seen whitey get tucked in...
