    Name These Caricatured 3CPlayers Characters

Thant could be Zanetti. The drawing looks much older than the SLIO tournaments. For example, it includes Kobayashi, both Caudron and Jaspers still have glasses, and Dani Sanchez still has hair :) Robert

Live video from Superprestige in Lommel, Belgium

looks like some matches are about to start at the Superprestige 3-cushion event in Lommel, Belgium: http://www.superprestigelommel.be/ Robert Edit: Looks like Merckx is playing Forthomme now. Merckx started with a nine! They are punching a chess clock when they sit down after their inning...

    Name These Caricatured 3CPlayers Characters

Maestro Rubio was kind enough to present me with a caricature at this year's SLIO. (see attachment) Robert Edit: my scanner didn't quite capture the color properly. The paper looks very white in person, but the scanner exaggerated the tiny smudges and it makes the background look very dark.

Good Luck! Ester Park , at the Ladies 3Cushion Billiard Championship

I don't believe it's the USBA choosing her over Mercedes. From what I understand, Mercedes can't go and so Ester was chosen because she came in 2nd in the nationals. Robert

Raiford Wins Hall Of Fame Tournament!

Likewise, John - glad you could make it. Next time your name should be on the players list as well! I hope you'll post some pictures once Diekman finishes that cue you somehow charmed him into making for you. :) Robert

Raiford Wins Hall Of Fame Tournament!

Gracias, Juan Antonio. Spain would be a nice vacation, but it's still too early to know if I can go at this point. Thanks for the invitation, though! Be sure to take your video camera to the World Cup - we hope you'll get to post some more nice matches on your blog! Robert

    World Cup - Irapuato, Mexico

Anyone know what happened to Miguel Torres? 0.250 average and played only one of his two matches? Did he get sick or something? Robert

Raiford Wins Hall Of Fame Tournament!

Thanks, John - glad to see you here! Sorry you couldn't make it up for the Detroit event. According to the USBA website that tournament is the same weekend as the one at Carom Cafe in NY. I already have plans for the Carom Cafe event, so unfortunately no. I'm glad to see things happening in...

Do you adjust your aim for different spins and speeds?

Hi Dave, I appreciate your efforts, but I believe diagram 5 is misleading when interpreting the contour plots for practical use. Since the CB's velocity (and therefore SPF) immediately begins changing significantly for all tip contact points besides the natural roll offset, and since higher...

Congrats Robert Raiford Sang Lee '08

Yes, that's where I prefer to play these days. They put new cloth on all the tables recently and they play beautifully! Sorry to hear that about the tournament. They've really improved over the past year, but it's still a fairly new business and they still got a bit to learn about such...

Congrats Robert Raiford Sang Lee '08

No, they seemed to be more interesting in recording some guys named Blomdahl and Caudron instead for some reason. :) I almost brought my camcorder for recording my matches but thought it might be too distracting. Now I'm kicking myself, of course! Robert

Do you adjust your aim for different spins and speeds?

Colin, I enjoyed the contour plots. I do something similar in excel with some of my material to get a feel for certain trends. What do you consider 100% spin in your charts? I guess I'm asking what is your assumed miscue limit? Robert

Do you adjust your aim for different spins and speeds?

This got me at first glance because I'm used to thinking in terms of the LOC! Sure made all that over-cutting with no english look bizarre :) Yes. I love the technical details of pool and billiards, which definitely puts me in the over-thinking analytical player category. :) Yes. I have...

Photos from Sang Lee International Open 2008

Thanks for the kind words, guys! I'm glad you've found the commentaries to be helpful. I've certainly enjoyed helping Jan Carl producing them! This year the theme seemed to be "adjusting to shorter tables". For some players it was no problem, but others just couldn't seem to find their...

Congrats Robert Raiford Sang Lee '08

Thanks! :) That was definitely my best performance at the Sang Lee event so far. We played 40-point games in the semis which were longer than the 35 in previous years. In both cases I got an early lead and then towards the end the champions caught up to me and got slightly ahead. It looked...

    Sang Lee 08

I won't be doing commentary until I'm knocked out of the tournament, as I find it requires too much sustained concentration and can be exhausting if I have to play several matches a day as well. Last year I made it to the semis so I didn't do any until the finals. Since I hope to do better...

    Sang Lee 08

Carom Cafe is the room where the tournament is being held, but Jan Carl at CaromTV (a separate entity) is who actually produces the Video On Demand matches. Jan is basically a 1-man shop volunteering his time and resources to make the videos available in support of billiards. He appreciates...

    Sang Lee 08

If you can only make it for one day, I would recommend the friday or last sunday. The first sunday will be preliminary round matches and you won't see as many top players (the seeded players won't be playing yet, for example). Robert
