Poker Is Killing The Pool Industry

Pool on TV is sorta limp Is it just me, or do the pool players on TV come across a bit like robots? Pool players, as a rule, are funny people with about a million good stories to tell. You can watch TV pool for an hour and the only person that you hear talking is the damned announcer trying...

smoking ban and the effect on poolhalls??

rights Smokers' rights...non-smokers rights... What about the business owners' rights to make decisions based upon what they deem is best for their business? If he wants to sit around and go broke with the smokers, instead of tapping into this goldmine of the silent majority of pool players...

    Butterfly cue maker

Billy Webb makes some nice looking butterflies as well. He has posted some in the past. I think you can search his posts by using the "search" function located above. I think his ID is spiderwebb or something like that. Cornerstone billiards has a couple of his cues for sale. DRawls

TV matches - Could you ever win one???

Not Me If I got down on the nine playing one of those guys, shooting into a pocket with a TV camera poking up behind it, I would probably have a stroke (the bad kind). DRawls

smoking ban and the effect on poolhalls??

If you ask me, one of the biggest challenges that pool will be facing in this country before long will be NO POOL ROOMS!! I can tell you for sure that you can't make it on $32 a day, much less $32 per week. What's next, manditory green tea in all businesses?? It's good for you!! DRawls

McDermott cues hit like a 2x4?

It all comes down to what you like personally. A guy who likes Meuccis may say that McDermotts hit like 2X4s and a guy that likes McDermotts might say that Meuccis hit like fishing poles. McDermott makes good cues and they stand behind their product. The main thing is to get a cue and get...

    Just a quick whine

Lord, this time of year sucks!!!! Is it just me or does everyone's priorities go right out the window in Spring? They start fishing, going to the lake, playing softball and golf, mowing their yards, going to the races, staying home to watch basketball, taking their kiddies to soccer practice...

    Kelly cues

Does anyone have any information on Kelly Cues? This cue is marked "Kelly Cues '91" on the butt. It looks and plays great. Any notions as to its history or value would be appreciated. By the way, this is my first effort at posting a pic. It may be a bust. DRawls

What is wrong with pool having a seedy image?

The Hustler and The Color of Money are both movies that focused on the "dark side" of pool, gambling in a pool hall (shocking!!); and yet they did more for the sport's mainstream popularity than any ten tournaments. It seems to me that for years pool has tried to supress one of its most...

not as good on bar box than 8 and 9 fters?

Drew is on the money as far as I can tell. On the bar box you have the same amount of ball traffic on a playing surface that is somewhere around 16 square feet smaller if my crayon math is correct. Shot making is not the problem most of the time. You must control the cue. You are not alone...

    Pop quiz.. hotshot.. selling scenario

I guess it would matter what sort of relationship you had with the customer up to this point as well. But in most cases if you buy a new cue and play with it three days and decide you don't like it you need to find someone to sell it to, because at that point "It's YOUR Baby....YOU Rock It!!"...

Smoking Ban-Pool Room 1st Business Busted

Room owners are not civil servants. We are not talking about hospitals or courthouses, or even grocery stores for that matter. You don't get drafted into the pool hall. Those that insist upon control of the environment of the location in which they play pool should be willing to foot the bill...

Smoking Ban-Pool Room 1st Business Busted

I own a room myself. I pay the utilities, insurance, taxes, and about a hundred other bills that I try not to dwell on most of the time. If I make a business decision to eliminate smoking due to the wishes of my customer base that is one thing. But unless someone else wants to start kicking...
