McDermott cues hit like a 2x4?

I was talking to my pool instructor the other day (who is very good at billiards), and I asked him what he thought about Mcdermott cues. He said that he hated them and that they hit no better than a peice of 2x4. I was suprised and disapointed becuase I was going to purchase one of their $150 cues.

So my question is: Do they really "hit" like crap? Or is it just his personal opinion? Please let me know because I want one. :)

BTW: He was using a $500 Meucci Cue at the moment and he said that he liked those the best. (Figuring he has tried hundreds of cues!)

Thanks

I have one of their $350 cue and it hits great, no complaints. Plus, how could you go wrong with the warranty?

First off, this guy is seriously shit talking other brands with a meucci in his hand? don't get me wrong I love the way the old no dot shafts hit, but the new ones eat a warm piece of cat poop........and like it

My advice would be to try the McDermott you were looking at and if you like the way it hits then buy it, screw this guy's ideas of what hits good and what hits like crap

I have a D-19 and D-26 and they play different from each other but they hit real good. I prefer the 19 hit better but they both hit very good. Remember the hit is in the eye of the holder. One mans trash is another mans treasure.

??????????

Who is your pool instructor. I would like to pm him an ask why? Maybe he can convince me to trash my big MAC.

meucci dont belong in the same sentence with mcdermott in my opinion. dont get me wrong, i dont want to riffle any feathers but i dont know why anyone would buy a meucci. granted i have seen many good players using them but the quality isnt there. in my own head i cant justify paying $300 for a cue that you can feel every inlay on with a shaft that is guaranteed to warp.

Buy the cue if thats what you want. the only preferance that really matters is your preferance.

I can say Id rather have a McDermott than a new Meucci. Myself, Im hooked on Schuler, and I simply wont play with anything else.. thats me, my Schuler is still pretty new to me but I like it. Never dreamed Id like it as much as I do, and there is only one sure fire way to tell if you like a cue... Pick it up and shoot with it. The only downside is you need a lil time to adjust to a new cue. So if you start playing bad when you first get your new cue, just remember you need time to adjust.

i tried serveral mcdermotts and i think they hit really well, especially for the money. hay it's only 150 with hit being as subjective as it is i don't think that that's too much money to risk to find out if you like it or not. just because your instructor doesn't like it doesn't mean you won't. i myself don't like meuccis they're just not right for me. Also with all these positive responces for a buck fifty i think you could get most if not all of your money back here if you don't like it.

It is definitely his personal opinion, the same as anyone else on this forum will have their personal opnion concerning any cue.

In my personal opnion, I wouldn't use a Meucci Cue to hold up a plant in my garden.
Give my opinion the same weight as you would your instructor's.
Try the McD. If you like it, buy it and play with it. If you don't like it, don't buy it. This is another of my opinions.

It's the old, some like vanilla and some like chocolate...Everyone has opinion's on everything in life. Make up your own mind. The top shooter in our BCA league last season uses a $150 McDermott jump/break as his shooting stick...So go figure...

It all comes down to what you like personally. A guy who likes Meuccis may say that McDermotts hit like 2X4s and a guy that likes McDermotts might say that Meuccis hit like fishing poles.

McDermott makes good cues and they stand behind their product. The main thing is to get a cue and get used to what it does when you do what you do.:)

Here's my advice:
1. Try a few cues and buy what feels best and fits your budget.
2. Find a new instructor that is not so opinionated and is interested in helping you find a cue for YOU instead of HIM.

It's a very personal feeling about how ANY cue hits. A guy told me years ago that he HATED the way Southwests' hit. Sacrilege!! You are the one who will be playing with the cue, make sure you try before you buy. Just my opinion, but I think a lot of meucci lovers HAVEN'T hit thousands of cues, or they wouldn't be playing with a meucci.
If you are just learning to play, a McDermott will be fine. I've never personally owned one, but I've recommended them to people looking for a decent, inexpensive, cue.
One word of warning, If you are still in the learning stage, DON"T buy a McDermott and buy a predator shaft for it. A predator shaft at this stage, will ruin your game. Go with the MCD shaft till you get more experience.

why would someone buy something if they didn't like it?

poolplayer... Your post doesn't make any sense.

i thought that might happen after i posted it. the guy who posted before me said if "if you like it buy it, and if you don't like it don't buy it"

well sure if you like something you'll probably buy it but the second part implies that even if someone didn't like it they might buy it. i guess i kinda sound like a jerk (or tard) for point this out. by bad
