Have you ever been watching a TV match, and thought, I could have won that match? LOL, well there have been a couple of times when I said that to myself.

What were the matches where that popped into your head? And who were the players, you thought (however briefly) that you could have beat?

I watched a couple of Tony Ellin matches where I thought I could have won, and I have also thought I could have beat Rob Saez, given his performance on a TV match.

This is only in good fun before you come back to reality ... ROFL

And Charlie Williams missing that easy 6 ball in the Mosconi Cup that let Steve Davis beat him .... whew!!!!

Too easy to be an armchair pool player, when you are actually in the heat of the action stuff pops into your head that you would never expect.

It's hard enough to concentrate on what you should be doing besides worrying about TV production crews telling you when to shoot or wait, the cameraman walking directly into your shot or the fact that everything you are doing will be watched by potentially thousands and thousands of peers.

Just watching the production of it is nerve wracking, having to perform in the midst of all of those obstacles is easy when all you see is the final product of all of that work.

Not Me

If I got down on the nine playing one of those guys, shooting into a pocket with a TV camera poking up behind it, I would probably have a stroke (the bad kind).

DRawls

thousands could . . . . on a given day

Quite honestly thousands of people could win a single TV match against any of the greatest players on a given day. Efren at his worst before eye surgery was very takeable in a full table game like nine ball and in the short tailored for TV race. There was at least a chance of anyone at shortstop level or better taking him.

Sacrilege to many but once you get past the awe factor there really isn't that much separation between all of those that understand the game and can execute. Add the luck factors of a short race and nine ball and anything can happen.

Another thing that makes the best beatable at times. They look at an unknown and expect largely a by, the unknown often looks at the match as the chance of a lifetime. One is somewhat coasting, the other may be at the highest peak they have ever reached.

I always think that when the women are playing. In reality it is just thinking. Still harder than it looks

Actually, that year it was Earl Strickland who missed the 6Ball and let Davis win. Charlie Williams actually saved the USA Team by beating Souquet the match before to keep USA alive. If Earl would have won, the match would have been tied between Europe and USA.

All the time! I never miss from the couch. I can't tell you how many 8-and-outs I've run against Efren.
