Songs that make you think about pool

I remember "One Night in Bangkok" being played over and over on the jukeboxes during the weekend of my first SD State 8 ball tournament. It always takes me back to Pierre SD in 1984. The song has nothing to do with pool in the lyrics. And of course: Schoolhouse Rock's "Naughty Number...

    Balance right extension???

I have been using one for about six weeks. I love it so much that I am going to get one for my break cue. I bought a 60 inch cue about 30 years ago, and sold it a week later. The balance just wasn't rite for me. I am 6' 5" I might even try putting two on one cue just for fun.

    Highest Compliment?

One of the best compliments that I heard was from my Dad. He rarely says anything positive. I heard that he told someone else that by brother is pretty good, but I was a better player. Dad used to be the number two snooker player near my home town when he was in his 20's and 30's.

    Cues Stolen...

If that happened in Iowa, they could be charged with doing business (drugs) without a sales tax license too. From the web: In 1996 the Iowa legislature passed Iowa code 453 B requiring drug tax stamps for illegal drugs. "The Iowa drug tax stamp law is essentially a statute that is in the...

    Who hates slow players?

I don't know if he plays anymore. The last time I saw him was around 1986, before I moved to Brookings. His cue was heavy too, 23 or 24 ounces. Quite a character. He said once that when pretty girls are watching, he doesn't care if he makes the shot, as long as he makes the cue ball...

    Who hates slow players?

I have seen a guy who would take 20 to 25 strokes on each shot, regardless of how easy it was. Even on a straight in 8-ball in front of the pocket and a foot from the cue ball. He had a custom McDermott with an 8 or 9 mm shaft. It looked like a pencil.

Pool Room Stories: What's the most shady thing you've seen happen in a pool room?

Back in 83/84 in Mitchell, SD at the Doc N Eddy's. There were some high school kids who would prey on the local tech school students and beat them up outside. Three members in my program were beat up, one with a broken arm. He was a former college wrestler in one of the heavier classes...

would B vitamins help with pool?

I don't know why this area is more prone to be deficient in vit. D. My doctor mentioned that from a line north of around Kansas City and west to the Dakotas/Nebraska. Not sure how far east, but think it was at least Indiana. He thought 95% could take 5k per day without any problem. My...

would B vitamins help with pool?

For those in the upper Midwest, I recommend taking 5,000 iu of vit D several times per week. I have been on this dosage daily for about two years after the D level was dangerously low (16). I ended up in the ER with A-Fib. My Doctor told me that there were three others with the same...

State Champions - Do we agree on status?

Sioux City, IA is a good example for this. Suppose you live in SD, work in NE and do most of your shopping in IA. And the league you play in has locations in each state. I think it would be completely legit to play in each state tournament. The requirement in SD is to have a minimum number...

when was the last time you missed a Ball In Hand shot?

Mostly when thinking too much about where the cue ball is supposed to go. "I had big plans for that one" Reminds me of a lesson learned at an Archery course. There was a target setup where you had to shoot between two large trees. First attempt, I hit one tree, then I hit the other tree...

First time on a 7 footer

If you aim by referencing the position of the object ball to other pockets, don't do that on the 7 footer. I never understood my friend's comments that the angles are different, until I finally asked him what he meant. I had never occurred to me to aim that way. (don't look at which direction...
