    Handicaps in 8-Ball

My idea is similar, but without removing any balls. Opponent can shoot the 8 with x number of balls on the table. I wouldn't do more than two, as they can block pockets or be part of a cluster.

    "Nice shot"? Or no...

When someone executes a lockup safety, and another says "nice shot", I like to correct them by saying it was a good shot, nothing nice about it.

    SVB's Mosconi Facebook post

Add Canada to our team. Alex Stephen Holem, a 21 or 22 year old from Calgary who is shooting very well. Heard that he ran 13 racks of 8 ball last year in the finals of the VNEA Intermediate championship. Came out of the one loss bracket in the race to 7 tournament. Just won the Masters 8...

Dealing with the weakest player on a team

Way back in 1986, my team had three stronger players (relative to the area), a good player and a weaker player. We went to one of the contender team sites one night. They had what some called the best shot maker in the state. He could run out easily. My idea was to put our weakest...

    Old Players Stories

Here is an old player story: Kenny plays at the local Center every afternoon and about 3 hours on Saturday. Just turned 88. The game is 8-ball with the 1 & 15 going to designated side pockets. He never shies away from blasting a cluster apart, and will choose to shoot a crazy shot on the...

    SVB Hotel Room Broken Into!

The first time I went to Vegas for the VNEA tournament, I hid money in the deodorant that was almost used up. Someone gave me the tip to remove the deodorant part that advances with a screw at the bottom until it comes out, then stash the cash. Apparently this tip was known to the thief also...

    Great verbal comebacks

A friend, Troy, was in my home town playing in an 8 ball tournament. In a late match, he checks the rack before breaking. A local says loudly "he must have seen that on ESPN". Later in the game, Troy has two balls left, and the opponent has three or four. The cue ball and one object ball...

What got you interested in pool?

I think it started on a Wednesday night in 1971, when my brother & I played a game of carom on a carom board. A few years later, I would ride with my Dad to the local hangout where there was a quarter valley table. My uncle had a snooker table in the basement with not enough room for a 7...

The USPS Package of a Cue to me

Priority Mail flat rate boxes. If it fits, it ships. But it may not make it to the destination in one piece. I shipped a box of wheel weights a few years ago. Selling for 75 cents per lb on eBay at the time. double boxed about 42 lbs. Was sent a picture of the delivered box which was...
