    Sounds of a cue tip

This happens to me with any firm, extreme spin and always has. People look at me like I shattered my ferrule on big draw shots (which I have before!?!?)... don't know what causes the sound... but I wouldn't worry about it unless it gets worse. This problem is much more pronounced on my 11mm...

    Easy Jumper Legal?

Really? Pretty incredible that your opponents never leave you snookered and you're able to see the low ball after every break... sure you can kick at everything, but jumping is essential at high levels... especially in 9 ball. The rake is probably a trick gadget as well, seeing as how it enables...

    Games improved, but still losing...?

I have the same problem... nerves get to all of us sometimes. Try slowing your breathing, it helps me a lot. Or think about something completely non pool related for a minute, then switch back to focus mode and maybe you'll skip over that nervous state of mind in between. This works for me most...

    Easy Jumper Legal?

I'm gonna have to side with Mr. Strickland on this one... isn't jumping easy enough with the short cue??? Cool tool though... I might be more intrigued if I had a 9'.

    Tips for 2012

Kick safes! Totally agree. A very important dimension of 9 ball at higher levels. Watch Efren; his ball control when kicking usually leaves my jaw on the floor... and my confidence in the gutter haha.

    Tips for 2012

"Wing shots," a la Earl Strickland. Immensely improved my instinctual aim and is my favorite warm up (if I don't have much time to get in stroke before a match). If you haven't tried this, I HIGHLY recommend it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUtd7YisQ-c

    Racist Cue Case

Both sides of this argument are valid, to me. While the Nazis may have stolen this symbol and it brings up bad memories or notions with most people, it is also justifiable to feel that a thousands of years old religious symbol should not be made unusable because an evil group used it for a few...

    Pros and shafts

Go to youtube and watch the "what's in the case?" videos with Samm Diep. A lot of the top guys use LD shafts, but a lot of them don't (Reyes/Souquet/Strickland/Morris to name a few. I feel slightly more accurate with a LD shaft on long shots but I feel like I have to work harder to move the cue...

    Which corner do you use...

Is this a serious question? If the balls won't freeze, turn the rack and try another corner. If they still won't freeze, repeat. If you are still having problems, find another rack, rack by hand, or deal with it and maybe break from the second ball... and don't use a cut break in 9 ball if you...

    Do Pro's play 8 ball?

Yes but there are fewer 8 ball tourneys than there are 9 and 10 ball... Ralph Souquet won the world 8 ball championship recently, maybe last year. 8 ball is televised less, as it's not as "action packed" as 9... but it's still around. I love 8 ball!

can you turn down a shaft

If you take the whole taper down more than half a mm you'll feel a difference in hit. If you take the tip and ferrule down then smooth the taper out (like a z shaft) the hit will barely change. As long as you keep the change around 1/2 mm, the new taper shouldn't affect you either. What kind of...

    Help me like 9 Ball

Try playing 9 ball with al 15 balls... pretty challenging. I was not big on 9 ball till I played this way a few times. Or soft break 9 and try to leave everything at one end of the table (wing ball always goes on a bar box). Then you obviously have to play some tighter position... which is what...

    Tip Size

Most players use 12.5-13mm. I play 11mm with a regular pro taper as opposed to the conical snooker style; so does Strickland and a few other guys. I've heard Sam Monday and many others are big fans of Fast Larry's "Juiced" shaft which is 11.5-11.75. I do feel more accurate with long shots with a...

    Power Draw-Mike Massey-2 ways

The follow through helps to ensure that you're striking where intended, but of course has no affect on the ball, as it has left the tip long before you pushed your stroke out. If you don't follow through, you're more likely to poke it and back off in the middle of your stroke. This is of course...

    Cue Tips

I also really like the Kamui Meds on a standard shaft, but I miscue with them on my 11mm. Try a Talisman I think you'll be impressed. A lot of people have bad things to say about them... but I think this is based on their older production. I'm very very happy with how they play... and I've never...

    Cue Tips

Efren uses them soaked in milk and vice pressed. Milk dud. It is harder and plays like something between a triangle and elkmaster. This is my 2nd favorite tip... though a plain elk master will only last me about 3 weeks, as I'm a bit of a tip shape nazi! If you play 9 or 10 ball on a full sized...

    Power Draw-Mike Massey-2 ways

Exactly right! I think... but defying this is my break cue (a cheapish Lucasi with a 13mm shaft). It actually produces more deflection and flex in the shaft... my 11mm Pechauer is somehow more stiff, even with the same long taper. Then again Pechauer uses some really heavy/dense wood for their...

    Cue Tips

Everyone's opinion is valid, it's pure personal preference. I've played with all the major tips out there and the ONLY tip I've used that holds it's shape and chalk and doesn't miscue on me on my little 11mm shaft is a Talisman PIGSKIN medium. And not the old ones... they were terrible. This is...

    Power Draw-Mike Massey-2 ways

Thought this was a rather routine shot there's videos of other people on youtube doing it. Larry Nevel draws two table lengths from 9' away, cue ball frozen to the back rail and object ball near a far corner pocket. Now that's incredible... I can only get it back about 8 feet from being frozen...
