    Live Threading on Taig Lathe

Cutting tool is in the headstock, shaft is held in the cross slide and manually rotated/moved at the thread rate. Not sure what you mean by..."So is a reverse of Bob's or any other larger lathe set up?" Bob

    Live Threading on Taig Lathe

OK...so for $700 threading attachment and a $400 Kress router the CueSmith makes good threads. I would hope so. Bob

    Live Threading on Taig Lathe

Yes the CueSmith thread milling attachment can be added to the CueSmith lathe for $450 to $700 depending on options selected. https://www.cuesmith.com/thread-milling-attachment.html I have never seen threads produced by this Dremel setup. My experience with Dremel type tool run-out (using 1/8"...

    Live Threading on Taig Lathe

The following videos show what is generally referred to as live threading or live tooling... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYjAcD1Mvrg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVAyMQj1DqI The videos show a normal big lathe that has the ability to move the carriage and head stock at a unique rotation...

    Live Threading on Taig Lathe

How many people here would be interested in live threading on a Taig lathe? Live thread both external and internal threads. I wasn't happy with the threads produced by manually hand tapping internal shaft threads. So, I developed a new method that doesn't require a router or Dremel tool and no...

    Predator Vantage shaft

Seems this shaft should be renamed to the Dis-Advantage shaft if its got to be sent back for tip replacement. Even if the pad can be trimmed a few thou for each tip replacement, over time the pad will need replacing and then I guess its back to predator repair. Not much of an advantage for the...

    Predator Vantage shaft

I have a customer that needs a tip replaced on a vantage shaft from predator. Under the tip there is a pad. Does anyone know if that pad is the standard fiber pad available from several sources or is it some special pad only predator uses? Their hype says...."V-Tek Fiber Tip Silencing. Our...

Uneven points on full splice after taper

What would make the points on a full splice cue uneven after tapering? I tapered using an offset tailstock method. The butt stock was pretty straight before taper, but it did have a major gash along the lower part of the butt stock. I didnt pay any attention to the evenness of the points before...

    Black phenolic cloudy

Other cross contamination I recently had issues with ebony dust getting into maple forearm on a full splice. Ebony dust is like face powder. When sanding the points where the two woods meet each other..... thats the area where the problem is worse. Any ideas on how to eliminate this problem? Thanks

    Black phenolic cloudy

White phenolic/ Some good tips here on keeping black phenolic black, How about keeping white phenolic white? I've about decided the white and black phenolic is not worth the effort. Its so easy to contaminate, its extremely hard to get the crud out or the pores. Never had a problem with the...

    Weight of finish

"Maybe you calculated a .002 thickness instead of .004." Thats exactly what I did..haha. After reworking the math...I get around .21oz. That ignores any loss of evaporation in finish. A lot of assumptions. Joey says 10 grams which is .35oz. You say .27oz I calc .21oz OK well they all close...

    Weight of finish

The quart of liquid is just a reference. Quart(32oz) of water weighs 2 pounds(32oz). Quart of liquid is 57.8 cu in. Volume of finish is about .2 cu in. (.004 thick finish on a .840/1.27 cue). .2/57.8=.00346x32=.11oz Assuming 36% of finish is solids then .36x.11=.04oz Check my math...I've only...

    Weight of finish

Your 32oz per quart weight is pure liquid. Most finishes have solvents that release/evaporate over time after sprayed. A typical acrylic lacquer has around 36% solids, which make the solids weight around 36% of 32oz/qt or 11.5oz/qt. The resultant weight of the finish would be closer to .04oz by...

    Weight of finish

Whats the weight of a typical finish. Something like clear coat. I know it will depend on how many layers of finish is applied. So maybe a range of weight or weight per coat? Thanks Bob
