    Thread mill

I'd do some research on live threading before deciding on a thread mill. It's not the diameter of the tenon that counts, its the TPI that you are trying to cut. Also clearances and relief. Then go real slow. Spinning sharp carbide tools at router speeds and engaging threading gears on a lathe...

    Wrap Question

I've done the double thread, white/blue and white/red to get a red white and blue wrap. Not hard, just takes 3 hands. Definitely worth a double charge. Never did the twist, but I would think that you would have to cut a bit deeper. Linen only compresses so much. I'd be interested to hear how...

    HELP getting forearm points even

points Old one piece cues are the hardest to get even. Usually the points weren't cut evenly to begin with, so as you start to bounce the joint to even them out, you don't get what you would expect. Worse case is when they go high/low/high/low. At that point, you just have to say, old one...

    Tapping Ferrule Issue

    Tapping Ferrule Issue

Tapping Ferrule I'm assuming you are using the taps in the correct order and not starting with the bottom tap. Griz is ok for some tools, but I would invest in a better tap if I planned on doing more than a couple. Hard to beat osg for taps, but you pay for the quality.

    Ever replace those padded wraps?

padded wrap About a year ago I decided to never work on any chinese imports again. I've never regretted it. Almost impossible to guess what you are going to find. And, you can't really charge what your time is worth on a 200.00 cue.

    Wood Supplier

Everyone has a different opinion of what is good shaft wood. I would recommend buying some from them and making your own decisions. They have been in the business a long time and have a good reputation. See if you like their wood, and develop a relationship. Your suppliers can make or break you.

    OUUCH on CNC Lathe

Tom, I think where the confusion is coming from is you are talking about commanded position and I'm talking actual machine motion. Unless the machine has some type of feedback, all Mach knows is how many pulses it has sent out. Mach could be sending out enough pulses/ stepper motor step...

    OUUCH on CNC Lathe

Just for clarification. How does Mach 3 know how far it really went. Does it have a rotary or linear encoder. Second if I may try to answer the threading question. You would need to control the spindle to do threading. With the Stepper box that's included and Mach 3 it should be workable...

    Adding screw on extension

screw on extention Schmelke has the US patent, Mezz does the same type overseas. You are screwing into a special bumper. I have done the Mezz and it worked very well. You can't get the Mezz in US anymore, but I'd expect the Schmelke to work the same. Not sure who did it first. I believe...

    CNC Machine

Take the classes first. With what you learn, you will be able to evalute the machne on your own. And that is always better in the long run. Only you can decide what you want it to do, and how much f___ing around with it to do it you can accept. All machines have limitations, the first and...

    Todds CNC cutting shaft

Cnc Tom, The great thing about CNC is that it will do what you want. You don't have to have 0,0 at the head stock. You decide where you want to start and where and how you want to go. Every machine has a sweet spot for cutting. It may be climb cutting or it may be conventional cutting. Feed...

    OUUCH on CNC Lathe

Mr. Tom Hay, If you look closely I said I hoped it worked, and I still do. I just thought you were overly postive about it for a one pass test. I hope you do more testing and I hope they work. But you sure came across like a snake oil salesman with your post. Especially the misleading...
